Aibu to wonder if it's OK to go for a half hour row as part of daily exercise?

Do you mean rowing a boat or going to have a public barmy with your OH Grin

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 18/04/2020 19:26

Are you going to duel someone 😱 You have to stream that!

DuploTower · 18/04/2020 19:27

A row in a boat of course Smile

Sparklingbrook · 18/04/2020 19:29

Sounds fine to me. As long as you don't have an incident and require assistance.

Waffles80 · 18/04/2020 19:29

I don’t think it’s on TBH. If you get into difficulty on the water, you are adding to the workload of the already overburdened emergency services.

Firecarrier · 18/04/2020 19:32

Of course it's fine. But await the Stasi....

nopenothappening · 18/04/2020 19:32

Is rowing a boat more dangerous than cycling?

Nighttimefreedom · 18/04/2020 19:32

I'm sure OP hasn't randomly decided to start doing this without proper equipment and experience.
I say its fine as long as you can keep your distance.

Fedup2020 · 18/04/2020 19:32

It’s fine

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 18/04/2020 19:35

It's an exercise.
I am disappointed though. I looked forward to watch some row or quarrel or duel or whatever

DuploTower · 18/04/2020 19:35

I can't think what kind of incident could occur that would require emergency services. Nowhere near open sea, it's not a great distance. Surely there'd kayakers etcs still going out (I don't know) but see this as similar to cycling

And stop with the fucking Stasi comments. God.

SB1189 · 18/04/2020 19:41

Not really on, no. British Rowing have advised against all activity including solo rowing. Most of the waterways authority’s & the EA have asked people to avoid venturing on to lakes and rivers right now.

nopenothappening · 18/04/2020 19:43

You could slip in the shower and need emergency services, but I haven't yet seen anyone propose we ban showering.

DuploTower · 18/04/2020 19:45

"What about single-scullers in private boats?

Whilst we fully support the importance of maintaining physical and mental health during this difficult time, it is our advice that single sculling, whether through private land or club facilities ceases until further notice. We feel that there is no justification for the travel between a person’s home and their rowing club being classed as anything but ‘non-essential travel’. In addition, waterway authorities (such as the Environment Agency, Port of London Authority and Canal & River Trust) are asking waterway users to cease recreational usage."

Give mumsnet time, I’ve already seen on here that food isn’t really as a human could live for 3 weeks with no food. Toilet roll not essential as you could use a rag to wipe for arse and a child not needing shoes as they can go bare food. This place is batshit lately

OP go for your row, just don’t lick anyone while your out

Franklydear · 18/04/2020 19:50

Our local RNLI said to stay off the water

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 18/04/2020 19:53

I live on a waterway - our neighbours have been taking kayaks out for exercise. This seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Haven't taken our day boat out though - it has an engine.

Samtsirch · 18/04/2020 19:54

@Sparklesocks
I wondered the same!
Thought maybe in these desperate times it was the new national pastime 😂

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 18/04/2020 20:05

Butt shower! 😂

modgepodge · 18/04/2020 20:09

I’d have thought rowing significantly lower risk than cycling. My husband rowed for 15 years and to my knowledge never needed emergency attention doing so (couple of injuries requiring physio or whatever but that’s not the issue here). Cycling the last 10 or so and he has ended up in hospital once and a couple of near misses. Thinking about it most keen cyclists I know have done themselves serious damage at some point, most rowers I know havent.

That said, if BR are advising against if, will your/your club’s insurance cover your boat if it gets damaged while out?

DysonFury · 18/04/2020 20:25

Oooh a 30 minute daily row sounds like bliss becomes nostalgic re. married life

Isithometimeyet0987 · 18/04/2020 20:53

Don’t do it. A friend of dhs was fined for kayaking the police said it wasn’t an essential trip and he lives under 10mins from where he kayaks. He refused to get out of the water and so they doubled the fine.

Tootletum · 18/04/2020 21:56

My concept 2 is in fine form in the garden.

DuploTower · 18/04/2020 22:29

Crikey :/ how much was the fine?
