Christening gifts

After an afternoon of tidying out, dh has rediscovered gifts the kids were given when they were christened. They are now 6&8. At the time, they would have been too young but now I see no harm in letting them use gift sets of bowls and egg cups or toys that we put away and forgot about. But DH says they are special gifts so shouldn't be used. So now they've been boxed up to stay up on a shelf or in a cupboard. I don't get the reason. I didn't argue with him in front of the kids but just seems a waste to leave them not in use.

So aibu?

Never really understood the whole keeping things unused idea.

Definitely use them, as the gifter I'd be sad they were in a box and not enjoyed.

Use them. What’s the likelihood of the children wanting them kept specially for years to come.

I don't get most christening gifts. Use them if they are practical. Thankfully my son got no unusable gifts but dd got a few including a silver spoon and a silver set with sippy cup and a useless tiny picture frame.

Their best gifts were silver money boxes.

Unless they're obviously special display items that aren't intended for use then of course the kids should play with them.

Use them. Tell the DC they were christening gifts from X.

Use them what on Earth is the point of keeping them
