thinking that lockdown is amplifying our personalities, for good or bad?

Goes for family dynamics too.

Do you think lockdown is shining a light on our best and worst traits? I’ve noticed in my friendships that some of my, let’s say more dramatic or self centered friends have become unbearable. One claims she is ‘shielded’ and is cross that the government does not agree. Another is all over social media with their political insights, complaining, and condescending as if they know far more than anyone else.

And some of my friends, despite being either on their own, struggling, losing jobs, sick family members, are being so kind and compassionate. Many are refusing to give in to negativity and showing such fortitude.

Some families seem to be creaking under the stress and blaming each other. Others finding deeper connections.

And all over mumsnet either snippy threads in trivial issues, or amazing ones showing intelligence and support.

Couldn’t we use this unusual time to become better people, by rising above pettiness and all of us upping our expectations of ourselves and other people?

This crisis has people in either a nasty or nice category imo

On one hand you’ve got
A 99 year old man raising millions for the nhs
You’ve got people volunteering to get shopping for the vulnerable, all pulling together to help others.

You’ve got people that stick to the guild lines the government have given us, to try and protect our nhs staff and ourselves.
You’ve got people checking in on friends & family more

On the other you’ve got
People that wished our Prime minster dead when he was in hospital with Covid on social media
You’ve got people that care so little able others health they take no notice of the guidelines
You’ve got ambulance tyres that were slashed in Kent at my paramedic friends depot

On here currently you can’t have a thread about hair dye/ something trivial without someone saying “is that your biggest problem right now” “just be grateful your alive, people are dying” like it’s a crime to think or talk about anything other than Covid

Unfortunately some people are just cunts and even in a crisis they are still cunts. I’d love to say this crisis will change them, but it won’t

No it won’t change everyone. It is our chance to call out bad stuff though, and encourage the good. I’m going to use it to write some letters to improve the NHS and care homes now and into the future. At the moment we are realizing how much they do... it’s an opportunity for good!

Agree with pink heart. Some folks have shown they are good people, they take a pragmatic approach, are kind, take time to understand what they are saying, and others spend time making up imaginary rules and then attacking folks for not implementing them, curtain twitching on their neighbours,,or proclaiming everyone will die and this will go on for years.

Elements of people’s personalities that have never really been revealed have come to the fore. And some of it is deeply unpleasant.
