How do I go about getting my name off the mortgage? Ex payed a large deposit and for the sake of what id get from the sale id rather just take my name off the mortgage and private rent ( I can't buy again anyway ) so how and what happens to get my name off ?

It's not as simple as "just take your name off", it's a large debt and the holder of that debt needs to be sure it will be repaid. Talk to your lender to see if a Transfer of Equity is possible, if not then your ex will have to remortgage it in his name.

You will need a solicitor to get you off the deeds and the approval of the mortgage company to get you off the mortgage. Your ex will need to be able to afford the mortgage in his sole name only and agree to take on the debt in his name only. At the moment mortgage companies are swamped with requests for mortgage holidays and trying to adapt to social distancing rules, so this is unlikely to happen quickly.

I couldn't work out from the message if you intend to live in the property still? If you are still living in the property, being on the mortgage will give you far more rights than being a tenant. If your ex becomes your landlord, he could evict you, so consider this route carefully.

Thankyou for your replies, yes still living in the house, he can afford to take it on himself as I became a stay at home mum a month after we moved in, I'd like to be able to move out quicker but unlikely the house would sell for a while now
