Should I write a letter to the sellers?

Hi all

Me and partner been house searching for 3 years now!! A lot of properties around here are either out of our budget or not for us (yes we have been picky!)

Long story short, my absolute dream forever home came on the market about a week before lockdown, I didn’t see until the night before lockdown so obviously I have not viewed the house, it’s within our budget (checked with our mortgage advisor) and been emailing estate agent about viewing when pandemic is over. I was going to email and ask for more photos/ maybe a video tour of house if the sellers would be willing when suddenly the house changed on rightmove to SSTC. Estate agent has confirmed that out of the blue, a couple that viewed it within the first week have decided to make an offer after all, the sellers thought about it for a few days and accepted.

I get it, I lost out, but I have literally begged the estate agent to let me know in an instance if the sale falls through and they said they will. However, this estate agents doesn’t have the greatest of reputation around here and I’m wondering if to send a letter by post? They have no idea about us because like I say we never got to the viewing stage, but I mean a letter stating that we wanted to view but couldn’t and to please phone me if the sale doesn’t continue.....

I know this house is perfect for us, one of my friends lives on the same road and it’s such a lovely area to bring children up in and the houses are lovely.

You have nothing to loose, I think

Remember that estate agents are working for the seller, so doubt they would do you any favours, especially if you say they dont have a good reputation.

I would. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Would you make an offer on just videos and photos? Then what happens when lockdown is over and you finally get into the house and actually you don't like it as much as you thought you did?

The seller will stick to the less risky offer of someone who has actually been in the house physically.

Nothing lost by writing the letter, useful for the sellers to know you're interested, in case their buyers fall through. We viewed one house, said to the agents we quite liked it but had one or two concerns, did they have anything similar in the area? They said no. Two days later the house across the road went up on their website! It put us off the agents so much we didn't even put an offer in, I always thought I should have written to the sellers to say we would have offered if their agents hadn't been such a nightmare we weren't willing to deal with them!

I would.

Yes... I made an offer on a house that wasn't passed on by a reputable estate agent because they wanted the sellers to accept the admittedly-stronger (no chain) offer they already had... meeting the owner later socially she was shocked. It happens... write the letter and then at least you know it has got through

Do it, like the others have said you have nothing to loose!
