What can I buy a 30 year old man?

Posting for traffic (sorry).

Currently working from home and it's my relatively new (two months) work colleague's 20th next week.

He's lovely and a breath of fresh air to line manage after a nightmare experience previously.

I'd really like to get him a present (around £20 budget) but what do you get a 30 year old man? I have no clue.

I would probably get something vaguely related to work but not work, such as favourite expensive coffee or biscuits, nice stationery, calendar, mug. Something they can use when they are working that shows you have made the effort to choose something they will like, but nothing too personal.

"I will be doing the same for the rest of them when it's their birthday too."

..so you haven't done that in the past? but for some reason plan to start now? or is it you that joined the team and all the colleagues are new and this is the first birthday?

If you haven't done this in the past and he is new to to the team I think it would be weird to start doing it. Send him a virtual birthday card with a "cheers" or something. You wouldn't be doing him any favours to make him feel awkward.

You could always say you'll get the first round in to celebrate when this is over and you can take your team to the pub.

If anyone does have any idea where one can purchase a 30yo man, please let me know Grin

I think it's unusual to buy something for a colleague singularly if you work in an office, unless of course you are friends as well as just colleagues. That said, if you were friends you'd know what to buy him. 🤷‍♀️

And, if there is a store selling 30 yo men, what would influence your decision to purchase, or not?

(I misread it too!)

Me too @Shosha1**

And me!

Some form of hotel chocolat gift pack? Would also mean you can get the same or similar thing for rest of your teams birthdays when they come about and it's fairly platonic. And who the hell doesn't like chocolate?

I agree that mumsnet is a weird place but it's equally weird to buy all your colleagues a birthday present...
