To think this is the worst in social media stupidity

I’ve got a friend who puts EVERYTHING on social media, this includes Instagram stories of her two year old daughter stark naked on a public account.
Today she has put a video up of her step son who is also very young with the caption “haha he’s crazy” running about the living room with a plastic bag over his head.

The suffocation risk was well known when I was a toddler about 6828 decades a go.
I commented that it was dangerous and she’s deleted my comment but left the post up. All her friends have just put laughing faces on.
AIBU or is this insane?!

The parent was watching the child. There’s no problem. You sound miserable

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 15/04/2020 18:15

You looked at a picture of a baby in a shower of rose petals and saw a sexualised image? Confused

Then you went beyond that and 'couldn't help' but mention that the parents were sexualising their child?

I genuinely judge you infinitely more than the parents in that situation TheGirlWithAPrince

Either there are a lot of people on Mumsnet who can’t see the consequence of a child learning that putting a plastic bag over their head is funny and gets you positive attention or there are lots who are just looking for an argument.

PotholeParadise · 15/04/2020 18:22

What everyone else said. You discourage children playing with plastic bags, because if they think they are toys they will play with them again
And one day you might not be watching when the game goes wrong.

LovingLola · 15/04/2020 18:29

There’s no problem. You sound miserable

And you sound dim-witted

TooGood2BeTrue · 15/04/2020 18:32

Those saying don't report to SS - can't you see the possibly fatal consequences of such stupid behaviour?! What if the boy puts a plastic bag over his sister's head next time whilst mum is having a shower? The fact that this mum even put this video up on FB really shows that she has no understanding of the dangers of plastic bags in the hands of toddlers!

I hope the step sons mother knows the sort of behaviour this woman is encouraging in her child. Hopefully as it's a public account she will see it and be able to put a stop to it.

@tiredanddangerous

"Teaching a toddler that it’s funny to run around with a bag over your head is hugely irresponsible. Next time he does it she might not be in the room."

This 🔝

BlueJava · 15/04/2020 18:54

Just block her then you won't see her stuff.

NiteFlights · 15/04/2020 19:00

I think you should speak to her - tell her that you are worried that the child might do this again when no adults are present.

If she can’t take that on board you should consider talking to the child’s parents. What is the dad’s role here?

I am very surprised that anyone views this as not a serious matter, it is incredibly stupid and dangerous to encourage a child to do this!

NiteFlights · 15/04/2020 19:01

PS and after that, block her, for the sake of your blood pressure if nothing else.

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 15/04/2020 19:21

YANBU, she's an idiot. I wonder what the boy's mum thinks about the care he's receiving under her supervision?

rosiejaune · 15/04/2020 23:54

Plastic bags virtually all have holes in these days, to prevent such an event occurring. So while it might not be wise to encourage it, even if he did it again when she's not there, it's unlikely he'd suffocate.

MrsSnitchnose · 16/04/2020 00:24

Ffs, and here's me always vigilant not to leave any out because one of the cats likes to play in them and I'm worried about her suffocating herself!

I second PPs who've said make sure mum gets to see it, I'd want to know if someone was being that irresponsible with my child. What if she doesn't know and he does it when he's at home?
