Eczema around eyes. Posting for traffic

I’ve woken up this morning and I have eczema around my eyes is really sore and swollen. I have had it before a bit, but not as bad as this.
I’m drinking a bit more than usual, am a bit stressed and not sleeping brilliantly, but I’m not using an new creams or make up.
Can anyone suggest anything to help please? Is there anything I can order online that might help?
Thank you

How strange, I’ve also come searching on these boards as I’ve developed a dry, scaly irritated path under my right eye and I’ve no idea what it is. Also got a few dry patches on my torso come up from nowhere. My skin is actually quite oily and never suffered from eczema etc but wonder whether stress could have bought it on?

I got eczema under my left eye last year and used this eye cream by La Roche Posay which cleared it up. Would highly recommend it. It’s very moisturising.

@Youngatheart00 this absolutely sounds like seborrhoeic dermatitis. Google pictures of it.

To be clear, you CAN use 1% cream around your eyes, sparingly and not for a long period of time. This is advice from my doctor. She specifically said 'I can give you a prescription for hydrocortisone but it will be exactly the same stuff you can buy over the counter - and cost you more'. As PPs have suggested, though, don't tell them it's for your face.

I personally wouldn't put Savlon on it, in fact I couldn't think of anything worse! Vaseline is a no go too, also Vaseline has zero moisturing properties it will just coat the skin in a film and won't actually do anything. I've just remembered when I had a reaction a few months back bepanthen was amazing. So soothing and a real moisture injection. It has a certain vitamin in it which helps the skin to heal itself. I've used it on extremely dry cracked lips too.

Are you sure its eczema and not conjunctivitis? Conjunctivitis can be a symptom of covid.

BusterGonad · 16/04/2020 10:43

Also hydrocortisone cream is in fact an eczema cream so is perfect to use on eczema which is on your face. It's not the devil's work, it's a cream to cure skin problems. Your face will not fall off.

InglouriousBasterd · 16/04/2020 10:59

Definitely hydrocortisone applies sparingly - it works so quickly. Afterwards I found Avene products to be the only thing gentle enough, they’re developed with skin conditions in mind. Roche Posay is similar!

Flossyfloof · 16/04/2020 11:08

When I had similar symptoms I tried everything - it actually turned out to be conjunctivitis/blepharitis. Before you try any creams I would use hot poultices and see how you get on. I use a mask called Optase which was truly life changing.

Flossyfloof · 16/04/2020 11:09

Salt water on cotton wool too. It’s horrible, I do sympathize.

CorianderLord · 16/04/2020 11:09

Get some hydrocortisone 1% from the chemist and some thick, waxy emollient like zeroderm.

I have chronic eczema (60% of body) and when my best friend got a touch around her eyes I recommended the above and it was gone within 4 days.

CorianderLord · 16/04/2020 11:12

@russel hydrocortisone is fine for the eyes, they tell you not to use it on the face because they worry people will over apply and damage skin/sun protection. I have much, much stronger steroids for my eyes and I doubt OP is going out in the sun much.

nibdedibble · 16/04/2020 11:13

Lanolin overnight for a few nights 👍 Lansinoh is good

CorianderLord · 16/04/2020 11:14

I would advise against lanolin as lots of people with eczema react badly to it

nibdedibble · 16/04/2020 11:27

Oh, didn’t know that! I’ve used it successfully round my eyes but I’m not a long-term sufferer, it’s an occasional thing for me.

Thingsthatgo · 16/04/2020 13:53

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. The rash doesn’t go really close to my eyes, it’s on both my upper eyelids and in patches under my eyes. Both eyes were really swollen yesterday, and the rash felt sore. Perhaps it’s a hay fever type reaction (I don’t usually have any allergies though). My actual eyes are fine, not red, watery or sore.
I used a little of the 8h cream overnight and it is a lot better this morning. But, if it comes back I shall get some steroid cream. When I eventually go back to work I will have to meet a lot of customers/clients and I’d rather not look like I’ve been sobbing all morning!
