Dog s**tting in garden

Londonwriter · 15/04/2020 10:33

We’re lucky enough to have a (narrow) 50ft garden during lockdown.

My DH has been allowing our dog to s*t in the garden. Everytime my three-year-old DS goes to play in the garden, which is currently his main outdoor recreation as the playground is closed, there is at least one or two cold, dry c*ps hidden in the grass.

My DH says that he feels sorry for the dog because, although we are using our one ‘exercise’ trip each day to walk the dog, the dog can’t manage. He says he doesn’t know the dog is c***g in the garden because he often wants to go in the dark.

I’m sick and tired of it. He’s pooing twice a day (on each trip out) and then, it appears, in addition, he c*d six times in the garden over the Easter weekend. I’m worried that my DS gets sick from the garden being a dog toilet. When my DH isn’t working from home, the dog manages perfectly fine on a short run in the morning, a brief walk around 4pm and a further brief walk around midnight.

I told my DH to try to get the dog to c**p in one place only, but apparently this is not feasible given he’s working full-time and we have a colicky baby.

AIBU? DH thinks I’m a hygiene Nazi and it’s fine provided the c**p is picked up.

Have you informed the dog it’s only to shit twice a day?

bluebeck · 15/04/2020 18:09

If DH lets the dog out, he picks the shit up.

Jessikka · 15/04/2020 18:13

Jesus.

Alsohuman · 15/04/2020 18:23

I reckon even he’d have lost patience with this ridiculous thread by now.

champagneandfromage50 · 15/04/2020 18:25

So your dog is responding to the current situation and lack of walks. I think your DH is fibbing if he is telling you that your large dog is only having a poo twice a day. Sounds like your DH is one of those who wanders off ahead whilst his large breed is having a dump and he doesn't notice.

Your DH is going to have to start taking responsibility and go outside with the dog and pick up after him. Its what he should be doing when out in walks. Your DH is the problem not your dog

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 15/04/2020 19:30

It sounds like the dog now has more or less free rein of the garden where before it was home it walks? That’s all it is.

My big dog poos at almost every chance he gets. So morning food, out for a poo. Follows me outside to hang washing? Poo. I go out for a fag midday, off he follows for a dump. And so on. It’s the movement of running round the garden I think.

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 15/04/2020 19:30

Home and walks, sorry.

JavaQ · 15/04/2020 20:02

Far better to take it to a park and let it shit there. Or crap on someone else's garden.

Your dog. Your shit. No sympathy.

Peppafrig · 15/04/2020 20:20

When you got the dog OP did you know that dogs shit and can sometimes get upset stomachs like us humans do ? You don't deserve a dog .

Darbs76 · 15/04/2020 20:22

Sorry but it’s a bloody dog. You’re expecting it to hold on for one walk a day? I have a dog, there’s never dog poo left in the garden in summer as I watch him when he goes out and pick it up. YABVU

Darbs76 · 15/04/2020 20:24

Also feed your dog higher quality food and they will crap less. But the amount of times you’ve said is not unreasonable. Mine only does one a day as he’s on decent food.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 15/04/2020 20:28

In general, I think people are getting the wrong end of the stick here - largely because I suspect there's a lot of pooing going on in gardens.

Oh FFS. There is, in my garden there are two large dogs shitting, the fucking cats from across the street, the fox and the bloody pigeons.

We all manage to survive.

Newkitchen123 · 15/04/2020 20:36

I've only read half the thread
I've got two big dogs
They do big poos
I go out and pick it up
I'm a dog owner
It's what you do
Just get on with it

WildfirePonie · 15/04/2020 21:04

We have made a dog run for our dog to do his business. Even if you pick up the poo there's always a bit left on the grass isn't there?! Just add some soil and sand to the bottom to make it easier to pick up. Doesn't have to be big, just big enough for your dog to go to the toilet.

JKScot4 · 15/04/2020 21:08

I read the OP and laughed!!
You have a dog and you’re surprised he poos in your garden??
I have 4 dogs and although walked lots they do poo in garden hence why we have a poop bin and scoop it up.

JKScot4 · 15/04/2020 21:18

The dog has never asked me to poo in the garden
I’ve now read more and Im aghast at some of the pp here owning dogs!
Dogs that are limited on toiletting, refused to toilet, don’t shit in your garden but dragged to public grassed areas.
Cruel selfish cunts galore here who obviously have dogs for show.
OP your usual routine would be 3 walks a day and only in garden once, what happens on nice sunny days? My dogs potter in and out garden all day, you don’t seem suited to having a dog.

OldPeculier · 15/04/2020 21:20

YABU to have not trained your large dog to shit in the toilet.

Maxabella2 · 15/04/2020 21:23

Feed frozen raw completes-dogs poo very little when given a good quality diet

penisbeakers · 15/04/2020 21:25

As a dog owner I can unequivocally say that you are fucking batshit. You're bleaching the bloody grass, really?

Christ.

Rezie · 15/04/2020 21:46

I can think of only 1 dog owner that lets their dog poo in the garden. And she makes sure that she immediately picks it up. Others take their dog out cause they dont want dog poo in their relatively small garden. I cannot really blame you for not wanting to have dog poop in the garden.

Alsohuman · 15/04/2020 23:02

Also feed your dog higher quality food and they will crap less. But the amount of times you’ve said is not unreasonable. Mine only does one a day as he’s on decent food

My problem is getting our dog to eat at all! She’s the pickiest eater you can possibly imagine. She shits several times a day when she’s deigning to eat the most expensive food on the market.

And of course she has free reign of the garden on lovely days like today. She shits, one of us goes out with the poo bag. It’s hardly rocket science.

Goingunderground2 · 15/04/2020 23:34

Worm your dog with a good wormer, that sorts most of the parasites up and pick it up. We do this with our toddler. No problems.

Goingunderground2 · 15/04/2020 23:37

From experience don't let the dog wee and poo on gravel, it will stink.

makingmiracles · 15/04/2020 23:42

Buy a longish leash and insist on dp putting him on it if he lets dog out at night? Preferably out the front instead of the back garden

Alternatively find a way to partition off your garden so dog only has access to the first patch to do business and dc has the rest as play area.

Not a dog owner but grew up with dogs and I think it’s particulary gross for dogs to be pooing where children are going to be playing-hence why dogs are banned from most parks etc. Too many health risks and even with picking up poo they’ll always be some residue left behind, enough to cause health problems, possible blindness etc.

Jeaniealogy · 15/04/2020 23:49

3 dogs here, they crap in the garden as well as on walks...we pick it up and get of it daily. You really don't have enough to worry about do you ?
