conspiracy theorist on my FB - Bill Gates is an evil dictator who wants to control us all with vaccines ??

I have someone I know vaguely on FB spouting this sort of stuff and lots and lots of idiotic conspiracy stuff in general. It claims that Bill Gates is single handedly responsible for killing Indian children with vaccines.

I don't much about it - do you think he is up to no good and is a dictator (also claimed)

I know someone like this too. They've really gone off the deep end in the last few weeks spouting a load of utter shit about pizzagate, 5G, coronavirus, Julian Assange, Bill Gates and how 'the truth will come out soon!'. Quoting David fucking Icke was the last straw and I had to mute them on social media as I was getting eye strain from rolling them so hard.

Yes David Icke is a source of knowledge for this person too!
I am fascinated and repelled as I had no idea the person was a guillable as this before this situation...

Do they mean vaccine derived polio? You can find an actual scientific, reliable account of that from the World Health Organisation here and it is a bit more complicated than ‘vaccine causes disease’: www.who.int/features/qa/64/en/

So the billionaires who don't donate towards coronavirus are selfish for not sharing their wealth (fair enough), but those who do are trying to control or kill us all . This isn't exactly going to encourage the selfish ones to be more philanthropic, is it?

It employs a data driven approach to medical philanthropy. Vaccines are a very cheap and easy way to save a lot of lives.

Facebook can be a cesspool of craziness and misinformation. I generally ignore it.

By all means, do that. I invite you in particular to devote a teaspoon of critical common sense to the logistics of a large scale conspiracy.

• how does Bill Gates recruit people to his evil plan? How does he know he can trust them, or that they aren't journalists or double agents?
• even evil plans need paperwork, project plans, payroll. How long do you think it would take before documentary proof of the evil plan got leaked?
• ask yourself how many people would actually have to be in on it for it to be true, and given that some of them would inevitably be low level peons with little to gain from perpetrating it, how long it would take for them to whistle-blow.
• read up on the few actual conspiracies we know there have been, like Watergate, and notice how few people were involved, how sad the plan actually was, and how little time it took for things to go pearshaped.

Large scale evil conspiracies happen basically never. Because they're totally impractical and contrary to human nature. You can barely get half a dozen people to agree on most topics, much less buy into an evil conspiracy and keep it secret.

I have one of these on my fb page too but unfortunately it’s a relative who I need to have proper contact with and can’t get away with a card at Christmas as that would be plenty.

One of the last videos they sent they said they had seen the start and that it was great, looked like being a good introduction. I pinged back to say not to bother as I’d watched great chunks of it and the stats they were quoting and the things they were inferring were really dodgy, treating their inferences like facts and basing more and more conclusions (which they spouted as fact) off them and even a first year stats student could list all their errors... unfortunately it hasn’t shut them up but worse they now see me as more of a challenge to convince me with other mad conspiracy videos 🙄
