To think it won't be possible to go away

We were going away last week for a week in the UK. Obviously we couldn't go. Two weeks before lockdown I requested we moved it as we knew we wouldn't be able to enjoy it even if we wasn't locked down. People were stripping the shelves of all the food etc. I have young kids so didn't want to go away not being able to get supplies. Or putting is at risk.

We got a really helpful lady who we were renting a cottage from.shes moved it to the 1st August. I think we can have a refund if the holiday can't go ahead. But that's at the owners discretion. My friend booked through this company and they moved her to October when it's freezing.

Now I'm under no illusion that by August we will be normal again. I'm not being an idiot sulking because I want this holiday either. But realistically if the beaches are open again we will just be in the cottage and at the beach. We won't need to eat out. We can take shopping with us.

I'll wait a couple more months and see what the situation is. It's 3.5 months away so by then it's likely over the peak and starting to shift? I certainly won't want to mix very much for the rest of this year. But outdoors on the beaches isn't too unrealistic is it?

Would you cancel it now or wait?

Aibu to think we will be allowed to travellre in 15 weeks time?

I would wait. Lots could change by then.

No rush to sort it now, like you say if restrictions start to lift its the perfect place to be.

My sister in law has a similar booking at same time and is also leaving it till late june to decide. The owner have said if restrictions allow they can go, if not they will refund or move.

I wouldn't cancel. It's hard to predict where we'll be by August but hopefully it will go ahead.

We've got a week booked in a cottage in the UK in the second half of August and are keeping the booking for as long as possible as we're hoping we will be able to go. If restrictions haven't lifted by then, we won't go but it's nice to have something to look forward to and we'd be disappointed to cancel now only to discover nearer the time that we needn't have done.

We haven't booked anything but I am hoping we might get away for a few days in August. I've got a big birthday later in the year and we were meant to be having a big holiday to celebrate! Thankfully we didn't book it!

Before anyone jumps on me, obviously we'll only plan to go away if deemed acceptable!

We have a trip within the UK booked for the end of June. Our accommodation has been cancelled by the owner, but we've left all the travel in place until nearer the time. If we can travel, I'll book another cottage. I'm hoping we can go, as part of the trip is an old friend's wedding, but we're all resigned that it might not be happening.

If anyone knows the answer to this question could they let the rest of us know please?

Lexijayde44 · 14/04/2020 14:21

Thanks all. I just wanted to see if others were doing similar or thought I was crazy for thinking it could go ahead. I'll keep an eye on things thank you.

That's exactly it it's nice to have something to look forward too. Hopefully by August alot would have changed.

Fingers crossed for all of you who are hoping to go away
