To ask if alcohol makes you feel low for days after

I had a few drinks over Easter weekend after a period of not drinking & feel so low today. Nothing feels ‘right’ & everything feels out of sync. I know it’s a strange time at time at the moment with everyone in isolation but since my couple of days of boozing, I find myself questioning my life & the people in it.

Anyone else get this from booze? I was actually ok before & coping with the current situation- aibu to think it would have such an immediate effect on me? I feel really low today & just not ‘right’

This is why I haven't had a wine since March 17th. I feel bad enough without adding extra sadness.

I don't drink regularly but I had a few glasses of wine over Easter weekend and honestly, I've never felt so awful. It was lovely at the time and I was only a little bit tipsy but then I ended up awake in the middle of the night having a full blown proper panic attack, hammering heart, feeling like I couldn't breathe, and then felt anxious and sad for about 48 hours afterwards.

I'm starting to feel like it's really not worth how absolutely horrendous it makes me feel. It's definitely gotten worse as I've gotten older.

Alcohol is the worst for me. Anxiety, panic, depression .... for days after. It's utterly horrendous. Beer Fear it used to be called.

I'm nearly finished on Annie Grace, this Naked Mind & also William Porter, explained.

Alcohol in its pure form (ethanol) would kill you stone dead.

I am so mindful now when and if I drink which is so rare.

Evil shit for me anyway

@Daftodil but now the journey is not worth the destination.

Well that is spot on!!!!!

LolaBelle99 · 16/04/2020 07:15

Yes and this is the exact reason why I don’t drink anymore. I have had the odd one every now and then but never more as I just don’t think the emotional side of it for days after is worth it.

Queenofthestress · 16/04/2020 07:15

Alcohol is a known depressant which can take days to get the effects out your system properly

Pineapples1980 · 16/04/2020 07:38

I know loads of people who feel like this. I gave up for nearly a year and loved the clarity of thought I had but have slipped back again to the odd glass here and there however the next day I always feel mentally wrong after.

MmmMalbec · 16/04/2020 07:59

Yes 100%. My husband is off work at the minute because it should have been the school Easter holidays so I’ve had one or two glasses of wine a day since last Thursday. Yesterday I realised how crappy I was starting to feel so I didn’t have any. Off the wine for the foreseeable now. Really don’t need any more reason to feel off at the minute!

I also need to change my MN name 🤣

Bingeslayer · 16/04/2020 08:02

Yes definitely, noticed it a few years ago too, trying to be tee total, which means avoiding going out with friends as they don't stop going on at you if you don't drink.

RuffleCrow · 16/04/2020 08:06

Yanbu - it sends me into a shame spiral if i have more than one glass of wine.

BossAssBitch · 16/04/2020 08:43

Definitely. I'm ok with a couple of glasses once a week but on the very rare occasions where I have a skinful, I can feel v low and v anxious for a couple of days after.

aquashiv · 16/04/2020 08:52

100% the Fear is strong enough without sticking booze the depressent into the mix.

blueglassandfreesias · 16/04/2020 08:53

Definitely depression and anxiety in a glass for me too which is why I’ve not drank and won’t for the whole of LD.
I barely drink anyway because of this.
