What to do with bags that shopping is delivered in.

Posting here for traffic. Managed to get an online shop... They delivered in bags for life to avoid contact which is great but what to do with them? Usually I would keep and re use or take them to the supermarket bags recycling point but not going to store. Don’t want to bin them.

What to do with them? Thinking to put them in the garage for future use? Assuming if there was covid on them the virus would die eventually? Or maybe recycle them when all this is over?

trying to be as environmentally friendly as possible!

Save them in your garage, the virus only lives for three days max it would appear so they will be safe in future. Can always wipe down after that to be extra safe.

Can you just give them a wash and store to use them down the line?

PumpkinP · 13/04/2020 14:14

I’ve been leaving them for a few days and reusing them.

HasaDigaEebowai · 13/04/2020 14:17

Just leave them for a few weeks. The expert opinion is currently that after 5 days most surfaces should be virus free.

Use them for bin liners

We don't have a garage so the (ordinary, not bags for life) that our shopping comes in has been going straight in the outside bin. Our local farm shop uses cardboard boxes so they go straight in the recycling.

halesie · 13/04/2020 15:13

We're using ours as liners for the food recycling caddy - rules have been relaxed so we don't have to use expensive compostable bags any more.

Imapotato · 13/04/2020 15:18

It’s pretty unlikely that there’s enough virus on the bags (if any) to infect you.

Just put the all inside one and put them out of the way for a few days. If there is any virus on them it’ll be dead by then and you can use them safely for whatever purpose you desire.

GrolliffetheDragon · 13/04/2020 15:35

Shoved them all inside one bag and threw them to the back of the cupboard under the stairs. By the time they resurface there won't be any virus left on them.

I’m keeping All of mine to take to the foodbank when this is all over as the one I usually volunteer at is always in need of them.

I'm going to be rich. 15p a bag - I've got loads Grin

I have bought a miniature industrial incinerator to dispose of any packaging.
