Week 4.
I’m officially out of ideas to entertain DS4 and 9.
Watched most of Netflix, Disney+, prime. Done loads of craft. Done loads of gardening. Played with all their toys. House is the cleanest it’s ever been.
How are you entertaining your kids? Feel a bit of a cop out giving them the ipads.

We're playing conker ball...

It involves a stick and a pile of conkers...

I don't know why these are better than bats and balls...

PicsInRed · 13/04/2020 13:52

This.

anothernotherone · 13/04/2020 13:53

My house is very messy and the floor in the kitchen needs washing esp since the younger two baked this morning... Blush I usually have a cleaner but obviously not atm.

WhyCantIThinkOfAGoodOne · 13/04/2020 13:53

My eldest has got really into programming with scratch. He's also been rediscovering old toys (marble runs, lego and blocks) and learning how to use motors in his lego constructions. DD has been ploughing through Holly Webb books and has got really into Phoenix comics and puzzle books.

I've been reading everything on my kindle and allowing the house to turn into a massive tip.

LoisLittsLover · 13/04/2020 13:55

Same timetable for 'school weeks' :
9am - exercise usually cosmic kids yoga
10am reading and writing
11am g creativity and craft
12 lunch and tvv time
1pm - contact with family, Skype, writing notes etc
1:30 science and maths
2:15 chores
2:45 snack
3 - games
3:45 online learning, apps etc
4:30 play alone

We pick a theme for the week between us and the activities are somewhat loosely linked to that eg James and the Giant Peach, Space.

This makes it much more relaxing for me as if an activity doesn't work, it's only an hour to the next one. I have a small baby so winging it quite difficult, preperstion is my friend.

anothernotherone · 13/04/2020 13:55

We're both still working but I work shifts outside the home still. When DH is in charge he watches films a lot with the kids, so when I'm home I try to get them in the garden, the youngest especially.

Daftodil · 13/04/2020 14:29

In no particular order...

Art/crafts. Gardening. Long walk/bike ride. Paddling pool (yesterday in the sunshine... not so much today!). Baking. Cleaning. Washing the car. Reading. TV. Marble runs. Train set. Games. Jigsaw puzzles. Losing my temper a lot.

ComeOnGordon · 13/04/2020 14:33

Discovered Draw with Rob from the Sunday times yesterday - that entertained my kids for a couple of hours today

Rebelwithallthecause · 13/04/2020 14:36

Our DC is only 2.5 so other than crafting, playing in tents, playing with toys, going for walks, baking and watching films there doesn’t seem to be much else we need to do.

We’ve got the garden pretty much up to scratch and the house is getting organised more so then it has ever been and DC is helping out lots with that too.

I generally cook minimum of 2 meals a day which we sit down to eat at the table (we didn’t have much time before to do this on a daily basis) and it’s surprising how much time you can use up of your day just slowing down your eating and cooking.

Popfan · 13/04/2020 14:38

I've had to strictly limit the ps4 to 23 hours a day only......

Bottomplasters · 13/04/2020 14:40

They are knocking them self out with screen time and I don't care, my mental health can't cope presently.

No timetable, no cares

SimonJT · 13/04/2020 14:47

I’m basically letting my four year old torture my boyfriend.

As soon as he’s up and dressed we do a bit of home PE, last week my boyfriend would then entertain him in two hour blocks as I was working (nor furloughed) so they would do lego, drawing, horsey (where boyfriend has to be the horsey Grin), watch tv, make things/crafty stuff/draw pictures on the balcony door with pens. We go to the park everyday, we tend to go to one slightly further away so as well as playing a bit of football etc at the park he gets a decent walk there and back so he’s nice and tired for bed.

Today however he has been a huge mardy swine so the tv is babysitting.

namechangenumber2 · 13/04/2020 14:50

DS's have become gaming experts. That's about it!

Both are bored out of their brains. We've played the odd game, baked a cake and walked the dog daily

PlanetMJ · 13/04/2020 14:52

2 and four year old watching a shit load of telly, playing on the tablet, sitting on the front doorstep in the sun waving to friends on the street walking past. Lots of paddling pool, back garden feralness, some baking, crafting, discos. But mainly telly. I'm not gonna lie. I am also drinking a shit load more than usual in the evenings so although not having many hangovers, im finding my motivation to create imaginative games and activities is patchy at best.

TheSandman · 13/04/2020 14:53

DS (11)is out in the garden reading- we have a big garden with high walls.
DD1 (17) is in her shed painting.
DD2 (15) has occupied the kitchen table and is making herself a skirt.

I'm doing more bloody housework.

Isithometimeyet0987 · 13/04/2020 14:54

With dd 4 we been baking, paddling pool, crafts, online dance/drama classes, school work/classes, play doh, reading, drawing/colouring, obstacle courses. Also giving her cardboard, paper, tissues and toilet role tubes and letting her make toys for the hamster. Also playing with what she already has.

Isithometimeyet0987 · 13/04/2020 14:55

Also Netflix and Disney+

emmasmith76 · 13/04/2020 14:56

Check out www.boredgames.club for free games, drawing activities and invention challenges. Loads more being added over the next few weeks.

HugeAckmansWife · 13/04/2020 14:58

DS (10) is mostly gaming, watching YouTube or pretending to be a teenager, eating pizza in his room, listening to music and singing loudly. DD (8) is legoing, crafting, playing schools with her toys, writing stories, currently in the company of a friend via facetime. They are polar opposites. I usually do more to keep DS off screens but with such an extended time ahead of us that is just going to make everyone miserable. We'll play dome board games, some football and go on a walk (avec moaning) maybe tomorrow but this is a long haul, not just a couple of days or a week.

zowiewowie · 13/04/2020 15:01

My little boy made a website that he's always updating with more things to do - it give you a randomly generated idea!

It's fun to use and kids can send in their own ideas to him (they come via my own email)

He's also found some really unusual and fun websites that are sneakily educational

It's at www.whatshallwedo.co.uk

He'd love to get some ideas in from people as well it makes his day to get a suggestion! Smile

MutteringDarkly · 13/04/2020 15:03

Are they in scouts or anything similar? I am relying heavily on getting DD to "work on a badge" when I suspect she might actually become permanently attached to the TV... Even better, Brownies invented a home skills badge so DD has learned how to hoover, make tea and coffee, and wash the windows Grin

Otherwise, bit of holiday homework, lot of screens while I'm working, jigsaw puzzle, endless games of top trumps, Fitbit steps contest on our walks...

bigmama2020 · 13/04/2020 16:01

I've had to strictly limit the ps4 to 23 hours a day only......

Lol!

123bananas · 13/04/2020 16:06

Today I have chucked them outside in the garden to get covered in mud.

I was doing learning stuff with them and a walk each day before the Easter weekend, but have been trying to decorate the living room so taken a break.

FourTeaFallOut · 13/04/2020 16:11

This morning we spent a couple of hours riding on vr rollercoasters on YouTube. It wasn't very worthy but it was fun.

Nutellapastries · 13/04/2020 18:38

I have a just turned four year old boy, plus a small baby. It’s a tiring combo! We mainly watch superhero shows on TV, then act them out in real life using Lego, play dough and our imaginations. Lots of jumping about.

He likes baking cakes. Hiding eggs in the garden and finding them. Doing the Google 3D animal thing on my phone. Playing Mario Kart. Driving his toy cars round the house. Pretending to be bears and chasing each other. Occasional painting. He’s not really into craft, it’s all very physical so the TV watching is best for feeding the baby and having a sit down.
