To think it's absolutely fine to treat this as a holiday

If you're observing all government rules

Honestly, whatever it takes to get you through this is FINE

Whether you're skipping down the street on your daily exercise, dressing up like a frog to go on your daily walk, sitting in your garden under a parasol listening to Rachmaninov, cycling in a mankini..

WHATEVER floats your boat within the rules have at it.

We all need just to get through this as no one has had to do this for 3 generations

So yes, if you can tell yourself you're on holiday - fine

OP posts:
LauraMipsum · 12/04/2020 22:13

Yep.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 12/04/2020 22:14

I agree with you OP. Whatever gets people through the very long days as long as it's with guidance and respect for others.

Letitgoooooo · 12/04/2020 22:14

Sadly my employer still expects me to deliver some actual work in return for my paycheque...

But if you don't have a job, then crack on, obvs

Wolfiefan · 12/04/2020 22:14

I was in the garden earlier. And it certainly sounded like a holiday round here. BBQ and kids playing and families laughing. Like being on a campsite in the summer!
No it’s not a holiday in that you shouldn’t be driving to the beach and meeting up with all your friends and family.
But if you can have a holiday spirit at home with the family then why bloody not!!

Helloitsmemargaret · 12/04/2020 22:19

Absolutely. The NHS are fearful that the 'second wave' will be a mental health crisis.

Notonmyshift · 12/04/2020 22:23

I'm enjoying being at home,
I'm pottering about, listening to music, cooking some lovely food.
I'm trying my hardest to keep jolly through this awful time.

PleasantVille · 12/04/2020 22:26

I don't have a job at the moment, I'm doing whatever takes my fancy, no one says we have to go around in hair shirts beating ourselves up. Do what you want as long as you keep to the rules.

CrazyTimesAreOccurring · 12/04/2020 22:26

Totally agree OP. It seems that we aren't doing it right if we are actually enjoying lazy mornings, a bit of exercise, tv, reading, board games.
Am sure it will start to pall soon, I expect a lot are struggling, but if there is any enjoyment to be had then great!

FlamingoAndJohn · 12/04/2020 22:29

I quite agree.
If you are unable to go to work or work from home then why not.

Dollywilde · 12/04/2020 22:31

Agreed. We’re working from home so enjoying the four day weekend. I’ve had a nice dress on, sat in the garden, nibbling on nice food, drinking ‘g’&ts (pregnant!), playing cards, definitely not chastising myself or wearing a hair shirt. We were meant to be on a luxurious weekend away in Cornwall as a last pre baby fling this weekend. We’re being spectacularly careful with the restrictions given my pregnancy but of course we’re enjoying ourselves, why wouldn’t we?

I’m very aware not everyone is lucky enough to have a garden, or income security right now, or a (just!) childfree household, but for those that do, just because it’s lockdown doesn’t mean we shouldn’t enjoy our ‘break’.

MintyMabel · 12/04/2020 22:36

The NHS are fearful that the 'second wave' will be a mental health crisis.

I said this right from the start. It will be compounded by the fact we already fail to treat mental health effectively.

I agree OP. If people need to do stuff to get through it, other folk need to butt out.

Samtsirch · 12/04/2020 22:37

Yes!

bellabelly · 12/04/2020 22:42

I agree but the Fun Police will probably be along soon to tell you that you're doing it all wrong.

MT2017 · 12/04/2020 22:45

I am so grateful the weather has been lovely. Makes the whole thing a thousand times more bearable Wine

Iwantacookie · 12/04/2020 22:46

What is a hair shirt?
What I'm imagining is a semi gorilla costume Confused

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 12/04/2020 22:50

I agree op but I am mindful that some people are struggling so I haven't really been putting much on fb or my group chats. I am generally trying to be positive, play games with the dc etc. It's keeping my anxiety at bay.

Scarydinosaurs · 12/04/2020 22:51

@Iwantacookie it’s a Biblical reference- John the Baptist wore one. I believe it means to make yourself uncomfortable and to forgo luxuries.

greensnail · 12/04/2020 22:56

I'm having a difficult time for various reasons at the moment, but it is lovely to see and hear others enjoying themselves and making the most of the situation and it gives me some hope.

Hesterandfester · 12/04/2020 22:58

Well it’s lovely!! Maybe?

But also maybe read my post from earlier today. Where I was saying that I’m working 12 hour days, flat out, on the nightingale projects from home, and my neighbours fuckwitting attitudes over it being a party are not good. Party on...with headphone on, and with consideration for others. My need for silence and my work calls are not drip fed into your ears. So your crap FM/Rachmaninov/Little mix (or whatever) shouldn’t reach mine.

HoffiCoffi13 · 12/04/2020 22:58

I bloody wish, we’ve never been busier.
Whatever helps people get through it though! Just wish people would stop moaning to me about how bored they are and that they’ve run out of books to read when we’re trying to juggle homeschooling two children, looking after a toddler plus working!

TrickyKid · 12/04/2020 23:00

Yes. It's important to stay positive so why not. I'm ignoring the fact I'm not getting paid and pretending I'm on a long holiday in my garden 😁

Thinkingabout1t · 12/04/2020 23:02

WHATEVER floats your boat within the rules have at it.

Agree 100%, and i love seeing videos and reports of people having fun while staying safe.

Ninkanink · 12/04/2020 23:03

Yes definitely, why the hell not.

I’m at home with my DH, having a fantastic time relaxing and enjoying it immensely.

I realise that I’m very fortunate, and I realise that many others aren’t so fortunate.

TheWordmeister · 12/04/2020 23:03

I am enjoying it more than finding it a pain. I have a tan from all the fab weather.

I am still working but my workload is diminished and hassle levels are almost zero.

Ibizafun · 12/04/2020 23:04

Settled into a cosy routine of cleaning in the mornings and then relaxing in the garden after lunch. We’re treating it like a holiday despite all the heartbreak around us, because you never know when your own heartbreak will come.
