To have really enjoyed homeschooling!

I've actually really enjoyed having the kids at home and being able to teach them things and do proper activities with them. Normally we're busy doing organised activities (swimming, gym club, play dates, visiting family/friends, etc) and spend very little time at home.

They're only preschoolers but we've had loads of fun and they've learnt so much.

I'm going back to work next week (specialist role with vulnerable children) and I feel quite sad that homeschooling is finished.

I know many families struggle, which is why I'm going back to work, so I don't mean to be boastful but I feel sad today.

@MamaBearLockdown did you post that to attempt to make me feel bad or have I misinterpreted your post?

My children aren't strangers but there's lots to discover about them. They're fairly dynamic individuals with changing skills, likes, and dislikes.

I’ve been enjoying the opportunity to home ed my 11 and 12 year old foster children. I’m very keen on home ed anyway but foster children have to go to school which I do understand and I’m normally quite glad of a break anyway. But they’ve been with me several years and learning to read has been a real slog for them. I’ve always said I thought they should read simpler texts so they repeat and consolidate prior knowledge but teachers have always said they need to be pushed and so they bring home books they can barely read and, I think, as a result really don’t like reading. So I’m using this time to do lots of reading comprehension of texts they can read. I’m sure I can already see progress with the 11 year old but I tested their reading ages at the beginning of our home ed time and I’ll test again at the end and I’ll see if I actually have made any difference! We also do lots of crafty ‘topic work’ and I am loving it!

I've really enjoyed the holidays because we've spent time together doing things we like and neither of my kids are particularly energetic and we are lucky to have a garden and surrounding countryside. I'm not looking forward to term starting again. My 8 year old son would happily be studying A-level maths within a few months of home learning but will argue till he's blue in the face that there's no point spelling anything properly or using punctuation and his writing is illegible. My 6 year old DD will happily spend 3 hours on an intricate drawing but can't be enticed to do her school work (which is meant to be sent it daily).

I also enjoy home schooling - my issue is the fulltime job i also need to do ;) and without this fulltime job, we can’t live.
so while i enjoy home schooling, my life isn’t great in the moment. but i enjoy some bits
