Unrealistic expectations (Covid)

In response to a thread on here discussing the pros and cons of schools re-opening in July, I want to discuss whether this is a realistic expectation in the first place. Lots of people have been anxious about schools re-opening early because of the holidays they’ve booked. I don’t want to get anyone down but I really don’t think we’re going to be returning to normality that quickly. Lockdown restrictions may be lifted somewhat but I don’t think we’re going to have free unrestricted movement by July.

Wuhan has not officially ended lockdown despite the big public show. Data from South Korea suggests the possibilities of no immunity after negative tests show patients who have ‘recovered’ testing positive again.

I sincerely hope I’m wrong, but what does everyone else think?
YABU- things will start getting back to normal by July
YANBU- things will take much longer to recover

I think you're right Noti23
That was my reaction to that thread as well.
I would be delighted if it was safe to sent the kids to school in July. Even more delighted if it was safe to go to a holiday park. I don't think either are likely though.

I have a weekend away in the UK booked for March 2021. I reckon it’s about 50/50 whether or not it will go ahead.

Things are not going to be back to normal by July. I agree that the current lockdown will have eased by then. But I certainly don’t think holidays will be happening in July - even within the UK.

I think particularly travel restrictions will remain in place for much much longer. It has a bigger impact on flattening the curve than closing schools and is quite manageable to comply with for most people.

I think the lockdown will be lifted for the young and healthy by July (although I think there will still be restrictions so we won’t be back to normal). After the initial peak in April it would make sense to have another peak in July/August before the flu season starts.

I’ve had this horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach that this is going to take years not weeks to recover from Sad

I do think it’s plausible that schools could start to reopen about July. I think the first step of easing the lockdown in Denmark is the youngest children going back to school (from next week). If that strategy works there, then I can see the UK following the same pattern.

I have significant face-to-face reviews at work every 6 to 8 weeks. They’ve individually been moved to virtual meetings (with the room bookings cancelled) - all the way through to December. I assume this means my company is anticipating that I will be WFH for the rest of 2020.
