To play Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No 2 loudly in my back garden

Instead of the crap that people usually play around here.

There are people on the street who play loud music in their garden. I just wish they would play something decent instead of the crap they play.

Not one person is playing anything I like. I don't think they take requests.

Actually - TBF - one house did have a decent session recently with some rhythm and blues. But that's rare.

So should I just blast out some of the decent classics.

(obviously lighthearted)

This is the most middle class thread I’ve seen on here today Grin

Only if you re enact the something in the eye scene in Brief Encounter. Smile

Jimmers · 12/04/2020 12:40

I spent a lovely afternoon in the garden with noise cancelling headphones & Holst’s Planets the other day 😁

Jimmers · 12/04/2020 12:40

(And I’m not even middle class Grin)

Venus is at a huge magnitude at the moment. I might try this tonight!

If I heard that Rachmaninov concerto it would take me right back to my Leaving Cert exams (I’m in Ireland) 38 years agoGrin I played a recording of that over and over again for about four months because I loved it so much (kind of serious and somber and melancholic...perfect accompaniment to the Leaving Cert.!) Wonder if your neighbours will appreciate it though?

UnaCorda · 12/04/2020 13:03

How are people still voting for lark ascending?

Surely the lark must be in bloody outer space by now?

I think you should go for something by the Second Viennese School.

Procrastination4 · 12/04/2020 13:03

Sombre!

Youmustbefeckingjoking · 12/04/2020 13:07

YANBU! Afterwards though can you play Shostakovich's piano concerto no. 2?

I will honestly cry if that bastard bird wins the classic fm chart again Angry

Stickybeaksid · 12/04/2020 13:07

I’m cooking and I have Elgar’s cello concerto on full blast in the kitchen. Banging tune

KrakowDawn · 12/04/2020 13:08

The Lark Ascending is utterly diverting the first time one hears it.

It is somewhat overaired I'm afraid.

notangelinajolie · 12/04/2020 13:09

Oh yes go for it OP. Reminds me of my childhood. My mum could play the piano and No 2 was my number one request for her to play.

IrmaFayLear · 12/04/2020 13:10

We listen to Classic FM every Easter. This year I actually voted! And I so bloody didn't vote for the bird. Although I do have happy memories of it in a way as Classic FM lulled ds into an afternoon nap (hurray!) years ago and they always played The Lark Ascending in the afternoons (for smug retirees to fall asleep to in their conservatories...).

Zhx3 · 12/04/2020 13:13

One of the nice things about lockdown is that this year for the first time I'm getting to listen to the Hall of Fame, as we're usually away. Rach 2 is also my favourite, although difficult to listen to live as I get really upset if the soloist isn't completely on top of it! Heard Ji Liu play it live a few years ago, I took my parents and my dad was jiggling his knee in the 3rd movement Smile.

Youmeandborisbee · 12/04/2020 13:15

I wouldn’t class that as decent music but each to there on, eh?

goingoverground · 12/04/2020 13:15

I have considerate neighbours so it's rare that anyone plays music outside other than the bloody tuk tuks but yesterday evening at sunset someone played Spem in Alium by Tallis at full blast. Just that, just once, nothing else.

Youmeandborisbee · 12/04/2020 13:15

*own

BurtonHouse · 12/04/2020 13:16

You can do it if you live next door to me. It may be corny but it's gorgeous and will always be my favourite. Plus it might drown out the lawn mower on the other side.
Btw, what is middle class about classical music? I was a manual worker (retired from it now due to being ancient), council house born and bred.

Zhx3 · 12/04/2020 13:18

My 3 votes this year went to Rach 2, Chopin's 2nd piano concerto and Beethoven's Emperor Concerto, but could have added so many more!

KrakowDawn · 12/04/2020 13:18

@goingoverground that's pretty special!

MrsGrindah · 12/04/2020 13:19

@LemonRedwood What not even a diagram to post? Nobody was livid? Grin

Bracknellite · 12/04/2020 13:20

Yanbu but don’t complain if a volume war develops and you lose

IrisAtwood · 12/04/2020 13:22

I’d play Wagner’s Three Rings opera full blast using an amplifier. Should keep everyone entertained 😊

chomalungma · 12/04/2020 13:23
