To buy a SmarTrike?

Apologies I didn't know where to post this!

Looking at buying a SmarTrike for my 7 month old so we can make our single daily walks more fun! The 6in1 model caters from 6-36 months.

Does anyone have experience of using a SmarTrike?

We have a second hand one, bought it for a fiver on eBay. It’s been used a handful of times so far with our 17 month old, he seems to enjoy it quite a lot.

I got one when dd was 9 months old and we used it loads. Unfortunately she's got quite short legs so never actually got to use it as a tricycle under her own steam.

Imapotato · 12/04/2020 08:15

We had one for dd2 me at years ago. She had it for her first birthday and she had lots of use out of it.

She also learned how to pedal properly on it, so found learning to ride a bike easy, as she only has to work on balance.

We bought one for my son for his first birthday, he's 22 months old now and we have had loads of use out of it. Definitely helps that we have a lot of nice smooth paths around where we live to use it.

Thank you for the quick responses, it sounds like it could be a good investment!

We just bought one a month or so ago for first birthday present & are using it every day for our daily walks. Am very pleased with it - she seems more engaged in the outings than she did in the pushchair.

@suziedoozy Great! which model did you get?

It may sound silly, but have you tried your DC riding on anything similar? We were given one for DC1, who was ok in the buggy but hated the smartrike - also never liked ride on toys, anything like that, wouldn't be pushed in it or ride it as a trike later on. Totally bizarre reaction, but it meant it gathered dust in our shed until DC2, who thankfully loves it. So might be worth seeing if you can try one first!

@Bloatstoat that's not a bad idea! Although not sure how I can test it due to social distancing etc... and I ideally want it to make the daily walk more interesting for her! Hmmm....

My daughter had one for Xmas and started using it when she turned one (ours is the 18month + one but she’s tall!) and she really likes it. The only downside is that she can’t sleep in it like she can in the pushchair and we sometimes use walks as a way to get her to nap so it’s not been used loads and loads yet!

ScotsinOz · 12/04/2020 13:11

My parents bought my twins one each for their first birthday (they are now nine) and they loved them and we used them for most walks for a couple of years. I would definitely recommend getting one.

CliveIsAlive · 12/04/2020 13:35

Absolutely! Ours lasted 2 kids in quick succession and was used daily including going through fields and on rough terrain. It only broke when the 2 year old was sat in it with the 4 year old standing on the back going over wet grass after a few years use!

Ok brilliant, thanks so much for the feedback! I've ordered one and it arrives on Friday Grin

We got one second hand for £10 off eBay. Good value for money, not sure I’d have thought as much if I’d paid full price. Maybe I’m just a bit tight 😂

We had one around my daughter's first birthday. She liked it the handful of times we used it, but much preferred walking everywhere!
