To ask our neighbours to empty their paddling pool elsewhere?

We live on a hill, with houses stepping downwards. Today, my husband started digging out a raised bit of our garden as the intention is to flatten the area for our rabbits. Our neighbours have emptied their paddling pool tonight and it's filled the hole he's dug so far. Is it unreasonable for us to ask them not to do this and to dispose of the water further down? I don't want to put our rabbits their only for them to be bobbing in water whenever we have nice weather! Picture of the water attached 😊

Yanbu, I’m but I’d they are lower than you, it may just trickle to you anyway.

cakeandchampagne · 11/04/2020 20:32

It doesn’t seem legal for them to drain water onto your property.

user1471517900 · 11/04/2020 20:33

Of course, they probably don't realise what has happened and will apologise and do it differently next time

PippaPegg · 11/04/2020 20:34

YABU. You will be relying on goodwill of your neighbours and future neighbours for the lifespan of your bunny accommodations forever. I wouldn't put animal safety in their hands!

Re think the design. Keep those buns safe.

concernedforthefuture · 11/04/2020 20:35

Perfectly reasonable to ask (they're probably blissfully unaware rather than just inconsiderate), but if this is the natural flow of water from their property to yours due to the hill, your hole might fill with water in heavy rain anyway (so perhaps reconsider the site or incorporate a soak away somehow).

LolaSmiles · 11/04/2020 20:36

YANBU to ask them to make a reasonable adjustment if possible to empty in another area if their garden.

YABU to buy a house on a hill with gardens and have an issue with water running downhill. Paddling pools, buckets from car washing, hoses and so on would be normal household things in afraid.

flooredbored · 11/04/2020 20:36

What would happen if there is heavy rain?

PardonWhat · 11/04/2020 20:38

They’re obviously unaware of it and I’m sure they’d be mortified if they caused your bunnies to go for a swim.
However, if you live downhill - what do you expect? What happens with heavy rain? Where are they supposed to empty these things? Can bunny towers be relocated?

WindFlower92 · 11/04/2020 20:41

The puddle saga continues Shock Wink

sestras · 11/04/2020 20:50

@WindFlower92 is that thread still going??

Lunafloves · 11/04/2020 20:56

Thanks all! It's a tricky one as we accept it's a normal thing and it's got to go somewhere but it's just sat there because of the sheer amount they emptied by the fence. We're going to speak to them but find another plot for the buns. Not sure what to do with this patch now though 😭

Pond?

Whywhywhynow · 11/04/2020 20:59

Get ducks instead of bunnies?

Lunafloves · 11/04/2020 21:00

@Whywhywhynow this crossed our minds 😂

Likely the same thing would happen With rain ? Maybe put bunnies somewhere else x

VeganVeal · 11/04/2020 21:11

Looks like an ideal fish pond, easier to look after fish and they dont stink

sonjadog · 11/04/2020 21:15

I definitely wouldn't do any more with the site until you see what happens in heavy rain.

SweetpeaMidnight · 11/04/2020 21:17

If their paddling pool does that, every time it rains the same thing will happen. They've probably just saved you from a design disaster!

JayAlfredPrufrock · 11/04/2020 21:21

That would make me quite stabby. Tell them. Rainwater is one thing. Empty a paddling pool onto your land is bloody rude.

PardonWhat · 11/04/2020 21:22

I don’t think they’ve tipped it up over the fence. They’ve emptied it in their garden and the camber has caused it to roll down hill.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 11/04/2020 21:25

Thank you. I am aware of that. But it is an unusual amount of water to be released in one go and they should be more considerate.

PardonWhat · 11/04/2020 21:27

JayAlfredPrufrock

You’re welcome.
I don’t think a paddling pool being emptied is unusual at all but there we are.

Cherrysoup · 11/04/2020 21:29

Can’t they tip it down the drain? Or being eco, onto their grass?

oohnicevase · 11/04/2020 21:31

We empty ours with a pipe down the drain .. a tiny baby one can go on the lawn but anything bigger if you have neighbours is very selfish ! Def tell them !

JayAlfredPrufrock · 11/04/2020 21:33

I clearly live in a paddling pool desert.
