AIBU in wanting a Groupon Refund NOT 'Groupon Credits'

A couple of months ago I bought 2 x Groupon Deals from a local beauty salon.
It took several weeks to get an patch-test appointment with the salon, and when I went there (shortly before the lock-down) I was told I could only have 1 x groupon deal, not the 2 I had bought.

I have been trying to cancel the 2nd un-usable groupon (the 1st one is also un-usable due to the lockdown, but I hope the merchant will still honour it when life goes back to normal).
Groupon will only give me 'Groupon Credits'. I don't want these, last time I used Groupon was 2011, so I'm not a regular user!
Plus Groupon could easily got bankrupt in the next year or so, and I can't book any new deals because of lockdown.
I feel that Groupon shouldn't have made it possible for me to book 2 x sessions when the Merchant was only accepting 1 x session per user.

The amount I want refunded is £70, I am a low earner, single Mum and that money is a lot for me.

Anyone had any success getting a proper refund? Shall I go to my bank (online) to ask them to try for me?

Was the I voucher per customer in the t and C's? If so you could struggle to get a refund.
You are able to buy two presumably as one could be for you, the other for friends or family.

Did it say on the terms and conditions that you could only use one offer? It generally does, in which case I would consider a credit to be more than generous.
If it doesn’t say that you can only have one offer then the salon should honour the voucher.

Did you read the T&Cs? All groupon I've had have stated one per customer or can't be used in conjunction with another voucher. Groupon credits are more than generous.

Use the credits to bit someone else a gift of not for you. Agree with pps that most likely you missed the not in terms and conditions, as they are usually very precise that you can't use more that one coupon for the same person

Why are 'credits' generous?

I bought something I can't use, my mistake, the terms and conditions weren't clear IMO.
I haven't cost groupon/the merchant anything.

It's likely to read only credits in T&C's. Lesson learned.

Doesn't matter if the terms weren't clear to you, you agreed to them at the time Hmm.

I guess I've been told....

Sorry, OP, frustrating as it is, you agreed to the Ts&C's as a condition of purchase. May I ask how they were not clear?

KittyMcTitty · 11/04/2020 22:58

I bought a hairdresser appointment and when I rang she had no appointments for months so she advised me to get a refund through groupon - can you contact them and advise the salon said to request a refund as they cant honour the voucher? Clearly a genuine mistake so just ask nicely and see what happens

ifowaa · 12/04/2020 10:18

Oh there it wasn't clear because Groupon allowed me to buy 2 treatments, but when I arrived at the Salon I was told this wasn't allowed. I did check it was in the small print when I got home, but Groupon were happy to let me checkout and pay for 2 treatments, rather than flagging it up when I checked out.

If the T&Cs were genuinely unclear, then they can't enforce them (consumer lawyer here). Would someone else have read them in the same way as you did, do you think, or did you make a mistake and read them too hastily? If the former, complain the T&Cs weren't clear and insist on a refund..

Groupon won’t stop you buying multiple vouchers of terms state you can only use one because a lot of people use groupon to purchase gifts and experiences to do with other people. Two people can use two vouchers, why should they police that?
