To get two shopping slots in two days to gift one to my neighbour

So we've done our shopping, we are extremely lucky and grateful. I have asthma and a newborn and a two year old, DH is a keyworker (not NHS but essential). We've been getting home deliveries for years so have a pass. Our edit time is now up, as we are asked to leave 72hours for fulfilment. We've added a few bits and bobs for others down our road who are vulnerable. However a family over the street have also health conditions but are unable to get a food shop delivered home and need a full shop. I can get them one the next day after ours. Would I BU to get it delivered here on our pass and then walk it across the street? I have no moral issues but sense the curtain twitching... Am I really being selfish having two here in two days??

@Floatyboat the OP has asthma, a newborn and a two year old. Not the best idea to go and queue for an hour with them. She's trying to do a nice thing here.

The limiting factor is the size of the vans. With people ordering more stuff they can't fit as many deliveries in the vans so they can't deliver to as many households without hiring more staff and getting more vans.

It's a bit of a viscous circle isn't it. My friend is ordering more than using to last them longer (there are 5 of them anyway - two shielding) and not take up another delivery slot but this is a really good point.

Sleepsoon7 · 11/04/2020 08:37

Do it!

KrakowDawn · 11/04/2020 08:44

@TabbyMumz Waitrose are still restricting to three of any one item.

TabbyMumz · 11/04/2020 08:49

Tescos has no restrictions, neither does Sainsbury's. Aldi has reduced most of theirs too.

cactus2020 · 11/04/2020 08:53

Combine your order and free up a slot for vulnerable people, surely? As a two-parent household, essential worker or not, you could really organise yourselves to go to the shop and leave both slots for vulnerable people, but I know that won't go down well...

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/04/2020 08:55

Yes. Do it.

I can’t get anything. I’m disabled. No way could I go shopping. Disgusted with tesco and have been shopping with them for years. At least one delivery a week.

Dh can go. He is frightened of giving something to me. I’m not well. Chronic illness. He has to help and care for me. Plus waiting for more major surgery, which is on hold due to cv.

Bubblewings · 11/04/2020 09:02

TabbyMumz Tesco does have restrictions on deliveries - 80 item limit and maximum of 3 of same item, some items are even restricted to 1.

TabbyMumz · 11/04/2020 09:13

Bubble wings, I wasnt talking about deliveries. There are no restrictions in stores.

Stefoscope · 11/04/2020 09:37

Seems sensible to me. I've just managed to get a slot next week with Morrisons (annual pass holder). There's nothing on their website to say only book a delivery if you're vulnerable, if that changes I'll cancel it. I intend to use it for a big shop for my household, any bits my neighbours may need and also to stock up for my elderly Mum and some of her shielded neighbours. So saving quite a few trips to the shops. I'd rather live in a society where people look out for their neighbours than curtain twitch and judge other people based on whether they think someone is worthy of a supermarket delivery.

Agreed.

Sandybval · 11/04/2020 09:49

Yes do it, going forward though offer to combine maybe. Be careful though, my neighbour had a slot cancelled because she had 2 in a week (one for her which had been delivered and one for our neighbours the other side as I had to isolate and couldn't go for them).

Lolalovesmarmite · 11/04/2020 09:56

Yes, do it. I have a delivery pass for another supermarket and have used it to book shopping for myself (heavily pregnant) and my elderly parents on two consecutive days with no issue.

FullOfCake · 11/04/2020 10:10

Yes it is a one off, if we can combine of course we will. As I said, I have ordered milk etc for my next door neighbours on our shop, but then it came to light the family over the road were struggling. We know them well so I trust them. I know how difficult it is to get fresh fruit etc for the kids (if I was shopping for me I would survive alot longer) so as a slot came up my instinct was to book it. I have added their address but I'm reluctant to change it now because I'm worried somehow I will bugger it up and lose it. I will run it over for them when it comes. Thanks all for your input. I'm sorry to those that think I ABU. I appreciate you may say we can go out shopping but it is only ourselves that can decide whether we can manage the risk. I've had surgery, have poor breathing and cannot take the children too. If I could leave them with someone I would but it's complicated. I apologise if you think I haven't put enough effort in

Prior to all this, I had a tesco delivery van turn up twice in two days. They had delivered half of my order and when I unpacked and queried it (no substitutes or 'sorry we couldn't deliver') they realised my full order hadn't been packed or unpacked so the next day I received the other half of my order plus £10 goodwill voucher. There are reasons the van could come back and to be honest if people are that petty leave them to it :)

Incontinencesucks · 11/04/2020 22:04

Yes do it. My family have for another vulnerable family member who cant get deliveries and has to isolate for 12 weeks.
