Easter flowers - time sensitive

Hi all

Apologies in advance for the totally shameless AIBU - I've posted for traffic as this is super time sensitive and we are so desperate.

My FIL passed away suddenly this time last year, and my MIL is in the v vulnerable category so is isolating away from all family for at least 12 weeks.

This was always going to be an awful time of year for her and the whole family as the first year without my lovely FIL, and on top of that to be totally alone is a nightmare. We ordered flowers with Bloom & Wild to be delivered tomorrow. We placed the order a fortnight ago, but have just got an email saying they'll be delivered on Wednesday?!? So frustrating as there were tons of places with delivery slots 2 weeks ago and now we can't fine ANYTHING!!

We are desperate to send a little token in time for Sunday to remind her that we love her and are thinking of her for Easter, and make her feel a little less alone. We've tried every online flower delivery place, plus Selfridges, m&s, Waitrose garden, moonpig. Does anyone know of ANYWHERE where we might be able to send her anything on Sunday?!

It doesn't need to be flowers. Any token to try and lift her spirits at such an awful time is all we want. Any ideas would be so amazing!

Thanks all

You could try googling florists very local to her and begging them tomorrow for a same day delivery?

Do you know anyone who lives nearby?

Easterflowers · 10/04/2020 22:14

Thanks zebra, that's a good idea I'll try and call local florists tomorrow. My SIL lives half an hour away but I think especially in light of our recent loss we are all taking this really seriously as we know how devastating loss can be. So it doesn't feel like an essential journey to ask her to pick something up 😔

If you're close enough, are you able to drop flowers (from anywhere, such as a supermarket) to her door and ring the doorbell?
These times are so hard, but I think circumstances like this are necessary Togo against unnecessary travel 🤷‍♀️
Thinking of you and your loved ones Thanks

Hi OP I think you might have more luck if you give the local area she lives in. I’m in North Manchester and there are a lot of small local businesses doing delivery for things like cakes / flowers / chocolates

LouiseTrees · 10/04/2020 22:16

@Easterflowers where are you? Deliveroo are delivering Easter eggs, some other potential ideas depending on where you are

Easterflowers · 10/04/2020 22:17

We're 3 hours away. SIL is half an hour away but has a small child and is understandably very cautious about limiting time out of the house. All the family are desperately frightened to be honest as FIL died suddenly.

I worry for MIL - this is the first time she's ever been alone and now it's so isolating and for so long. Even the dog has gone to a dog walker for this period so she's totally alone in the house, so awful 😔

She's in Devon so I don't even think Deliveroo operates there!!

Ive just checked Deliveroo and it looks like co op deliver to her - I can't check stock until they're open again so I'll check in the morning. Thanks so much all!

Really ? No, it's not necessary.

jillandhersprite · 11/04/2020 00:39

Don't do a faceless online. Get on the phone to an actual florist close to her. Failing that a nice farm shop or garden centre that are open - they are round here because they are selling food and most are doing local deliveries. They might be able to suggest something nice that they can deliver same-day or on the sunday.
You have a far better chance of that working as you may find the general online says it can do it but when push comes to shove like your original order it won't happen for Sunday.

Figuringitout · 11/04/2020 00:49

Where in Devon? Maybe someone on here could suggest a local service or even leave a bunch (plus note) on her doorstep.

Easterflowers · 11/04/2020 01:45

Thanks for your suggestions all.

she's in Plymouth - if anyone knows of anything local? But great suggestions from all about phoning round in the morning and trying for a more personal touch. My worry with that is that I googled a few local florists earlier and mostly they said they were temporarily closed due to the virus but I'll definitely try and call around in the morning!
