Neighbours have sprayed fence paint onto my patio doors

Just that really, using the Ronseal spray fence paint. It has come over the fence and onto my patio doors. I’m tempted to tell them but I know it would have been an accident. I can’t seem to remove it. What should I do? Does anyone know how it could come off?

If it's on the glass you can use a Stanley scraper to get it off there. Is it on the frames and what are the frames made of?

PenfoldsFive · 10/04/2020 20:54

This exact thing happened to me last week, thankfully not onto patio doors, but onto a bench, a planter and the rotary washing line. AND they chose that fugly shit brown fence paint.

YewandOak · 10/04/2020 20:54

Paint scraper? Hot soapy water and a scrubbing pad?

Charlierocks111 · 10/04/2020 20:56

It’s on the glass and the pvc frame. Splattered everywhere. Tried neat fairy liquid and hot water, scrubbed. Not budging. Not tried a scraper, worried it would scratch the glass?

Pvc cleaner gets anything off

Justanothernameonthepage · 10/04/2020 20:59

Nail varnish remover (acetone)

I think the ronseal website has some advice somewhere on the most likely ways to succeed in removing fence paint. Unless you wash it off whilst still wet I think your chances of success are slim.

Depending on your relationships with neighbours I would still mention it, just so they don't do it again in future not realising! It will need doing again in a few years.

Hopefulmidwife · 10/04/2020 21:00

Ask them to have a look on the tin on how to remove it and when they ask why, say 'oh no reason it just got onto my patio doors!' Not moaning then 😃

EvilPea · 10/04/2020 21:01

Ours got it on our cars, polish got it off though.
No apology when I said. Hmm

I would tell them. If you have to buy a specialist product to clean it off, I think they should pay for it.

user1635896324685367 · 10/04/2020 21:03

Oh. I found it, but it basically says wash it off before it dries. I'm sure I read something more detailed last year. Pretty sure I've also seen at least one other thread where someone's neighbour inadvertently sprayed fence paint on their house.

Call and ask them. You might need to ask the neighbours which type it is though first

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 10/04/2020 21:05

You could try some solvent based cleaner or alcohol?

user1493494961 · 10/04/2020 21:06

Bar Keepers Friend is a good stain remover but I would test a patch first.

HerLadySheep · 10/04/2020 21:07

White spirit should fetch it off I know it's an accident but I'm d be pretty annoyed!

Sugarplumfairy65 · 10/04/2020 21:07

A few years ago my neighbor sprayed his fence. My raised vegetable beds were at our side of this fence and were covered in the stuff and all had to be thrown away. I was furious and let him know it. He won't do it again.
I don't know why anyone has to spray that shit into the air. It can't be good for the wildlife.

user1635896324685367 · 10/04/2020 21:14

I'd probably opt for a specialist upvc cleaner. Some chemicals can damage the surface or turn it pink/yellow.

Samtsirch · 10/04/2020 21:21

You could contact your neighbours to ask them which fence spray they have used, since you need to research the best way to remove it from your patio doors!
If it was a genuine accident they will want to help remedy the situation.

SoloMummy · 10/04/2020 21:31

I did this at my home a few years back. Nothing has worked. I think they should come with a warning tbh.
Like you ovc frames have marks as does the glass.

Merinocool · 10/04/2020 21:43

I managed to get it off my glass with a scraper (I wrapped a cloth around it to try and not scratch my window and did the surrounds with some pink stuff. It’s still on the bricks and won’t budge from that. My neighbour chose the windiest of days to do it and didn’t give a crap when I told them.

houseinthemiddleofthestreet · 10/04/2020 21:45

Maybe a razor blade like you do with a glass cooktop?

redwinefine · 10/04/2020 21:45

Tell them as they might be able to tell you how to (according to bottle) get it off

MillicentMartha · 10/04/2020 22:02

Don’t use nail varnish remover (acetone) on the frames!

AddressLabel · 10/04/2020 22:02

Don't you need to also spray your side of the fence now? Wink

TheGreatWave · 10/04/2020 22:03

One of those vanish magic erasers?
