I know no body can tell me without looking but wondered if anyone could help tell me if this is dangerous ? We've got a leak In the airing cupboard will attach pic, it smells funny too almost old smell I'd that makes sense? Can I get anyone out to look at it now, with the Corona going on?
Please don't say you should have got it done sooner I told ex ( who I was with at the time, we still live together in the same house) but he has all the money in his name/his account.

Leak of gas or liquid?
Coming into airing cupboard or starting in there?
Does it get worse / better if you run hot/cold water or central heating?

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 10/04/2020 09:18

Sorry, I cant see a pic

Plumbers will come out for leaks, but it's particularly bad timing with the bank holiday weekend too. Hopefully it can wait until Tuesday?

It starts in the airing cupboard, near the shower pump, no where else, it started as a small leak now it's got alot bigger I can't see where it's from but looks like the shower pump, doesn't smell gassy

How long have you had it?

What is leaking?

@Whitegrapeandblackberry do you have a carbon monoxide detector? Can you send a Facebook message or similar out to locals to get one? If it’s leaking gas then it’s very dangerous to your own health just breathing it never mind if it leaks so much that if you touch an electric switch of any type the whole place blows up. If it’s liquid and has a foosty smell it could be steam, could be something from the ceiling above, more info definitely needed.

Ok, it's a water leak.

You need a plumber.

You mentioned not having it done sooner, I would be prepared for your floorboards to be ruined under that carpet.

Can't see a photo but see if you are able to identify exactly where it's leaking from . Shower pumps will have four flexible hoses connecting the pipework to the pump. In the absence of any other isolating valves at least two of these flexible hoses will have a built in iso valves. You will need a large flat headed screwdriver to turn the slot head in the valve. Turn off the electrics to the pump also. You won't have a shower but it should get you over the weekend until you can get someone to it.

Thank you, would it warrant one now during this Corona? We've done the 14 days as DD had a temperature and has been over a week since the 14 days ended, if I don't nag ex he just leaves things thanks for your replies

You could try hand tightening the hose connections (clockwise), it may be that one has worked slightly loose. Hand tight only, no tools as you do not want to make the leak worse by overtightening.

amicissimma · 10/04/2020 10:39

You could try wrapping a small cloth, tissue, bit of loo roll round each connection. Have a shower or just run the pump. Go back and see which is wet. Then you'll know where it's coming from. Or where it isn't.

If you find the source you might be able to tighten a connection slightly, although they may be 'push on' connections that don't screw. At the least you could wrap a rag around the offending place (and change it as necessary) and/or put a basin under it which would contain the leak in the sort term until you can get a plumber.
