Presents for midwives

I’m due to give birth during the predicted peak and having been in hospital a couple of times since lockdown, I’m really grateful for all the amazing care I’ve been getting.

Originally I was planning to take biscuits and chocolates in as a thank you for the midwives but wondering now whether they’ll be inundated with stuff like that and it’s more stuff for them to have to sort out that they’d rather not have? Should I think of something else or aibu to stick to the original plan?

Presents are really lovely but the absolute best is a thank-you card.

RandomMess · 09/04/2020 20:46

Hand creams?

Wonderingwhy27 · 09/04/2020 20:48

We always appreciate thank you cards! Chocolate & biscuits or sweets are great as they usually go in the break room and we can grab them as and when we get the chance! So they would be welcome! So lovely to think of this OP! Hope all goes well!

That’s a lovely idea and I’m sure it would be well received. I took mine a hamper of artisan brownies from a local small business, but this was probably a fortnight after I gave birth.
They were really chuffed and said it was particularly nice to see the baby, as the post natal ward was away from the labour ward, and they didn’t usually see the babies after the first couple of hours.

I think in this unusual situation with lockdown and travel restrictions if you take anything in for them you’d be right to do it when you’re going in to give birth, and you should get them something with wrappers, eg celebrations or heroes. That way it’s probably slightly less of a health hazard, as they can just dip in and out and not worry about germs!

Best of luck with your labour and best wishes for a safe delivery. Flowers

Hand creams are also a great idea! Good shout a Random!

Mumsnet is peak this evening.

I've got a box of nice pens and some biscuits for mine OP.

BananaPlant · 09/04/2020 20:51

Hand cream is so welcome. Pens.
Black ones. Tea bags and biscuits.

IDontDrinkTea · 09/04/2020 20:52

A nice thank you card / letter is always far more appreciated than a present personally

AnneLovesGilbert · 09/04/2020 20:53

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

I did presents and cards for my midwife, student midwife who helped a lot, consultant and the ward as we put them through a lot.

The ward staff one was hand creams, biscuits, chocolates, a few packs of savoury snacks in case they didn’t all want sweet things and some fancy tea and coffee.

I took them in about a month after we had her when we went in for an appointment.

Beckyboom · 09/04/2020 20:55

Both times I dropped in a thank you card and nice hand cream a few days after the babies were born (hand cream on the advice of two midwife friends!)

wlv12 · 09/04/2020 20:55

Such a lovely idea!

I always appreciate the cards the most. However, biscuits/nice coffee and teabags/hand creams/pens! Are always welcomed xx

wlv12 · 09/04/2020 20:56

Ps all the best and congratulations on your soon to be new arrival! Flowers

Tea, coffee maybe other drinks? Always gratefully received as we buy our own. If it’s hot then cold drinks are great. But cards mentioning individual staff are best as we can use them for re validation

crispysausagerolls · 09/04/2020 21:04

We sent a couple of huge boxes of chocolates - one for the midwives who delivered and one for the ones in the antenatal ward

Becles · 09/04/2020 21:14

Email to them and copy the CEO or director of nursing and midwifery.

Midwives and nurses need evidence for revalidation and also recognition from the higher ups.

Something like an amazon or hospital coffee shop (costa or Starbucks) voucher would be best. Or supermarket voucher with a suggestion that she use to buy cakes for the team. Means they can have at a convenient time for them rather than struggling to finish.

Blacklemon · 09/04/2020 21:38

Ahh thanks for all the lovely ideas, I just didn’t want to make life harder for them at the moment when they’re so busy and under pressure.

They were so great at trying to keep things as normal as possible when I stayed in for a few nights last week.

Tea. Coffee.
Thank you card. Mention names if you can. It always feels nice when your names personally in a thank you card.

Misscoffeecrazy3 · 10/04/2020 19:06

I went to the local supermarket and got 5 cakes (4 person serving size each) each one a different flavour and a thank you card. Apparently they were well received.
