To think this lockdown is very revealing

We're in a pandemic and the outside stimulus of normal day to day life is removed and our usual rhythms have been interrupted.
At first it's about survival, getting food, dealing with finances, putting new habits in place (hand washing, social distancing etc) so we have plenty to keep us and our brains busy.
Plus we're all glued to the breaking news watching as the cases develop, death rates climb, the lives lost get younger and everything gets more scary - lots of things to process here.
Now we're a few weeks into UK lockdown and in a phase of 'the new normal'. We've accepted our fate to an extent and are finding ways to get through each day- in our own ways.
What I've observed is that there are some people being productive ( gardening, cleaning, using the time for homemaking, baking, sewing etc). Some are developing skills (learning, creating etc), some are making daft videos for laughs and others are curtain twitching and making their disapproval known, some are doing none of this and simply trying to get through the day.
But what I find revealing is the people who are drama queens and kings in their lives. They are missing their fix of attention/ chaos and are so desperate to be 'seen' and acknowledged. Because the rest of us are busy with our own situations, and not sending attention their ways, I find it very outing to observe what they text or upload next to provoke a reaction.
Does anyone else find this? It's easy to spot the drama llamas at the moment?

This lockdown business hasn’t been too bad for us. My DP has PTSD from a childhood trauma and had pretty much cut himself off from family & friends. He’s hardly off the phone. His anxiety is such that he’s been checking in with people and they have started to check in with him too. Having loads of different people to talk to has lifted his spirits and I hope these connections continue. It’s taken some time for our son to adjust as it means he’s probably done with reception class before time, but as time goes on he’s living being at home. I’m classed as an essential worker as no one else in our company can do my job and we’re a major supplier to a company who make health testing and medical equipment. But DP & DS2 are loving having me around more and life is a lot more relaxed, other than the virus worry that is always there niggling. We enjoy seeing ingenious people coming up with ideas for things to do or doing things to entertain. It’s also interesting to see people who thought were decent shown up as selfish arseholes. And as for desperate celebs? My god what a bunch of attention seeking whores! 🤦🏼‍♀️

@PicsInRed Not true for everyone, but I notice people who struggle in real life but who are upbeat on social media normally being more honest about their struggles.

Probably not what OP means but I'm sick of the supermarket adverts ramming it down our throats that they're "feeding the nation" .
I know and I really do appreciate what all the staff are doing every day. But the advertising for sainsburys and Aldi comes across as though they're doing us a favour - not - as the case may be making a lot of money out of us when they pretty much have us over a barrel in some ways.

I think there will be heroes and villains at the end of this. Things will have changed, not dramatically but in small ways.

Personally I think people's trust in the government and WHO will have been quite badly and irrevocably dented. The WHO who appear to have known earlier than suggested that China had this will find it very difficult to get funded, where Trump leads, Boris will follow.
The government didn't do enough early enough- we had far more warning than Italy but it was ignored and I think regardless of the PR stunt of Boris being in ICU that won't be enough for an enquiry not to take place. I think a number of people will be sacked.

I think the reputation and trust in the Police will fall dramatically. In a time when the NHS is seen as golden and amazingly brave under pressure, the Police have been threatening to fine people for buying wine and sweets, and getting off on telling law and Lockdown abiding citizens off whilst not really doing much on the huge groups flouting rules but sitting in their cars with a loud hailer. My local police is already facing a huge backlash online. I think they don't want to be left out on the glory the NHS is getting and it's backfired.

The volunteers who were quick to set up aid groups, teddy hunts and phone lines for support will be Godlike for a while. I think if the Queen can do her New Year's honours list, if she doesn't choose some normal folk there will be a lot of anger. Sod footballers and fat cats, I want to see the people who are out delivering food parcels and checking on neighbors.

Speaking of Fat Cats, the likes of Mike Ashley, Philip Green, Jeff Bezos, Branson and that blasted Weatherspoons twit will see their businesses hit particularly hard. Asking for payouts when you own three mega yachts, an island and a space race company really is poor form.

I think we may re-evaluate going abroad to some countries and I think that pressure on China losing that tourism trade and people being not so keen to buy from them (as we've become used to buying local or from UK based firms) will mean they may shut the animal cruelty down. I don't think they will eradicate it, afterall money can buy you anything you want if you have a big enough bank balance. But it will hit them hard if they don't as people are seriously angry.

I also hope it means people coming from countries like China are forced to go into quarentine when they arrive here, just asking people are they well isn't good enough, I think anyone who has been to hotspot countries for Ebola or Corona illnesses needs to submit to quarentine and testing if they still want to risk going to these places.

Know what you mean about revealing behaviour. I know someone who is getting bitchier/nastier by the day because she can't do what she wants when she wants! Spoiled or what ! We've all had to relinquish some control but it's hardly fair or mature to try and pee on someone else's cornflakes!

@Doggybiccys

Oh good grief. If I see the Beckhams baking cakes any more whilst gazing into the distance nobly I will scream

Your comment really SPIKED my interest 😉

One thing I have noticed is that some very rich companies/people have used the UK government furlough scheme to pay their staff whilst they aren't working.

I (stupidly) assumed that the scheme was to stop businesses from going under and not for the super rich to use to avoid paying when they can afford to do so.....
From football clubs to dress designers! The thing is some of these individuals use tax avoidance/tax minimising schemes/live abroad x number of days etc to avoid paying UK taxes and then now quite happily allow the general UK tax payer to pick up the what will be a considerable bill for many years to come.

Amotherof6 · 20/04/2020 09:00

Then you have Capt Tom Moore, the army of volunteers, people helping out neighbours and friends, as well as the ones working to keep the country going.....
I never watched celebrity programmes. I'm not on twitter/Instagram etc etc and never 'followed' the lives of the super rich or super famous and the could never really understand why people would (light relief from a tough day perhaps) but it makes the people who live their lives on social media platforms look even more .... (no idea what word I am looking for!). Now all super rich and celebrity (not necessarily rich) live like that but some do.

Amotherof6 · 20/04/2020 09:03

This is what I totally agree with.... perhaps use a bit of their own personal wealth that they appear to just sit on and allow to grow and grow
