Raw bread mix - food poisoning?

Randomname85 · 08/04/2020 21:10

Posting for traffic Soz.

I made banana bread today and cooked it for way longer than the recipe suggested however it was still pretty gooey in the middle. I read that if I could slice it I could just finish it both sides of the slice under the grill. I did this and it seemed fine - still soft but ok so my toddler ate some (as did I). She has been complaining of a tummy ache this evening 😕 now I’m extremely paranoid I’ve poisoned her. Am I overthinking? It was in the over for over an hour so the bacteria would have been cooked out right?

What do you think could have poisoned her?

WhyNotMe40 · 08/04/2020 21:16

Banana bread is always gooey in the middle?
I doubt any bacteria will survive an hours baking. Put it down to coincidence.
If it's any consolation my son ate duck poo age 1, a snail age 2, and age 3 drank dirty plant saucer water as apparently his cup just inside the house was too far to go. He also loves a bit if floor food and is way too fast for me as he knows I won't let him eat it that he now hides dropped food with his foot so he can pick it up and eat it .
He's still alive and just occasionally has a runny bottom despite his disgusting habits...

@WhyNotMe40 haha brilliant thank you! I’m never usually paranoid about stuff but I think it’s just heightened at the moment as it’s difficult to get to doctors etc so I’m terrified of something going wrong in that department!

@CodenameVillanelle raw eggs.

Is your toddler OK with bananas normally?
I only ask as my daughter is very allergic and we didn't put two and two together until she was a toddler.

MiggyMoggyMoo · 08/04/2020 21:37

Nothing wrong with raw eggs as long as you bought them in the UK. All our eggs are lion marked

LaurieMarlow · 08/04/2020 21:43

I honestly cannot understand your issue here. A cake baked for the allotted time will not give you food poisoning.

Your toddler might have a tummy ache because she ate too much banana bread.

Lovemusic33 · 08/04/2020 21:46

She will be fine, maybe it was just a bit heavy on her tummy rather than it giving her food poison, my kids eat raw banana bread mix all the time and cake mix, none of them have died.

Bluebooby · 08/04/2020 21:47

You can eat eggs with the lion stamp on them raw. A lot of people eat soft boiled eggs. Those are cooked for a lot less time than I imagine your bread was.

Shouldbedoing · 08/04/2020 23:20

Yes when I overeat banana bread I get tummy ache. And I never learn

Griselda1 · 08/04/2020 23:58

Bananas can be difficult to digest, I can only eat them in combination with other foods and can't tolerate them at all for breakfast.
Banana bread really has been the forte of this lockdown, it's presumably like the bread and dripping of the 2nd world war.

DdraigGoch · 09/04/2020 01:02

If the egg has been lion stamped then the chicken has been vaccinated. I used to lick the mixing bowl after use all the time when I was a kid, never did me any harm. Most people like their fried eggs with raw yolks.

Oysterbabe · 09/04/2020 01:11

My kids always lick raw cake batter.

Winterwoollies · 09/04/2020 08:05

I eat raw cake batter every time I make a cake (and I’m pregnant). It’s just butter, flour, sugar and eggs laid by my chickens. I’m guessing you bought lion stamped eggs, so you’ll all be fine! Banana bread is quite a heavy cake so it’s probably just sitting heavily in their tummy.

Toomboom · 09/04/2020 08:16

It was baked, cooked longer than needed, then toasted? How do you think your child got food poisoning?

Your title is misleading --- it wasn't raw bread mix, it was cooked.
