Pavement chalk - AIBU?

I saw a lovely thing online about a sensory walk pavement trail for kids - hop like a bunny here, spin here, follow the dots, touch your toes, smile - that sort of thing ... Thought it would be a lovely idea to do outside our house for all the kids going for walks with their parents .. cheer the kids up a bit. Happened to mention to neighbour over the fence before I started... He said oh isn't that vandalism of the council's property??? Hmm - AIBU or would it be nice thing to do? I tried googling it but there doesn't seem to be any clear cut law against it as far as I can see..?? Just don't want to draw it all out and then have to wash it straight off if it's illegal! Just to confirm I tried the chalks on the patio and they wash straight off..

And holding a goat on a leash.

Dose it matter if it's an a nanny or billy goat? Grin

RainbowsAndReading · 08/04/2020 19:08

@Esspee perhaps it's you that lowers the tone of the neighbourhood?

I'm assuming you were a child once....and I'm also assuming you didn't have to go through something like this where maybe drawing some chalk rainbows was the highlight of your day.

Lighten up.

Honestly, poor kids having to deal with this then deal with grumpy neighbours spoiling the tiny bit of fun they can still have outside their homes.

recrudescence · 08/04/2020 19:16

To describe chalking the pavement as “the tiny bit of fun they can still have outside their homes” is just silly.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 08/04/2020 19:17

What’s this about a goat on a leash?

Why? It’ll wash away when it rains.

Recoverandthrive · 08/04/2020 19:27

Lovely idea

Esspee · 08/04/2020 19:52

Well, despite it raining 3 times since the little darling/s defaced the pavement in front of my house, it hasn't washed away.
If your children are involved in this anti social pastime may I suggest you make sure they keep to the front of their own homes.

rubberoftheband · 08/04/2020 20:01

@Esspee you need to log that with 101!! It's fucking outrageous and you've counted three lots of rain (hopefully documented for the police) and it's STILL there!

God my heart goes out to you, it's a dreadful thing to have to put up with.., children's child on the pavement! The next thing they'll be playing knock down ginger the little darlings!

Chalk without a doubt defaces everything!!

GET A GRIP!

hesgotit · 08/04/2020 20:02

Should say children's chalk, not children's child!

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 08/04/2020 20:40

Do it! Do it!! Do it!!

I actually can't believe people are moaning about chalk drawings! Frikking chalk? Seriously?

DishingOutDone · 08/04/2020 22:25

We had to scrub quite hard to get rid of the giant willies. Really got my goat.

QuantumEntanglement · 08/04/2020 23:53

DishingOutDone Really got my goat

Oh it was your goat was it? Massive dripfeed much.

Yeah, and you almost had me feeling sorry for you there with your giant chalk willies. Disgusting.

Harakeke · 09/04/2020 00:03

"lowers the tone of the neighbourhood"

Do people really say this in real life? I'm not British, but the only time I've heard it is people saying it jokingly (like Hot Fuzz).

Malvinaa81 · 09/04/2020 00:08

It's all a little bit common, don't you think?

spatchcock · 09/04/2020 00:12

It's common, it lowers the tone, it's vandalism... Grin Good god, what a bunch of pompous replies. I'm betting you all live in those villages where people form committees to prevent people painting their fence the wrong shade of brown.

Walkerbean16 · 09/04/2020 00:22

We did a hopscoth outside our house, so many people do it. An older couple about 80 stopped and she went first then the man did it too and they were laughing together it was so lovely!

Walkerbean16 · 09/04/2020 00:26

Oh and it's almost gone now despite having no rain, no harm done! Jeez i have just read the thread back what on earth are some of you on!

Harakeke · 09/04/2020 00:59

@Walkerbean16 you and your 80-year-old passersby are clearly common as muck!!

DishingOutDone · 09/04/2020 01:02

@QuantumEntanglement thank you for finally acknowledging my giant willies.

MamaBearOnLockdown · 09/04/2020 01:04

Really got my goat GrinGrinGrin

simjam · 12/08/2021 09:34

"It may eventually wear off but it has rained several times and I still have to look out at this mess. It bloody well lowers the tone of the whole neighbourhood."

I'm with you 100%. Communal areas are not for anyone to take over.
