AIBU to think that warranty issues should be prioritised by appliance retailer?

Our fridge freezer has packed up. It’s only 4 months old and still under warranty.

But the manufacturer have shut all their call centres. My husband managed to speak to someone on online chat who said they’ll get back to us in the next 7 days.

So we tried the retailer because they offer a 12 month warranty too. My husband spoke to them yesterday and they said someone would call us back today. No one has yet. Their cut-off for next day dispatch is 3pm. So if they were going to send us a replacement before the long weekend, we’d have to speak to them before 3pm today and I’m losing hope of that happening.

I’m not sure what to do. We have a 9 month old. We can’t shop every day (plus all the shops will be shut on Sunday). The shops are devoid of ‘cupboard food’ (tinned stuff, pasta etc). We have a bit in stock but only enough for a day or so, we didn’t stockpile. We can’t go and stay with parents until it’s fixed or replaced, because our parents are elderly. We can’t really ask neighbours to help, because most of our neighbours are elderly. We can’t afford to get takeaway for every meal (plus you can’t really give an 8 month old takeaway).

The really frustrating thing is that if we were ordering a new fridge the retailer could have had one delivered by now but because it’s under warranty we’re at the back of the queue.

Your contract is with the retailer. Call them back
