AIBU to think that I with a tiny bit of keyboard knowledge. I could home school DS9 in guitar with the help of YouTube/ online app?

He is mildy autistic and I'm hoping learning will help his concentration span.

Any apps that you'd recommend?

Don't see why not, we're learning piano (well, keyboard) at home from an app. Seems to be going well so far. We're using Simply Piano by JoyTunes, they do SimplyGuitar as well.

My daughter is well verse in music and reading music but has decided to self learn guitar. It is going well so far and she is using the app yousician. It has lessons and it corrects the playing.
For tuning she uses fender tune which is free.
She is 11 and totally independant.
Yousician is not a free app but has a 7 days free trial so her job is to build a business case as to why we should buy it before i delete it on Friday 😉

It is a very very good app if you can afford it.

www.justinguitar.com as recommended by my child's school. All the kids in the class learned the basics over six weeks.

Fender are giving 3 months free access to their learning app fender play right now. Videos are abit dry but show multiple angles and have clear instruction

Ok it definitely seems a worthwhile project.
Which brings me to acoustic vs classical??

If you go classical, The Guitarists Way books are excellent for beginners (if you can order them on Amazon etc).

Moosey65 · 08/04/2020 16:01

Personally I'd go for the classical to start as the nylon strings are kinder on the finger ends than steel strings. I'd also have a look on Ebay for a copy of Fredrick Noad Solo Guitar Playing version 2 (methinks, its a black and white cover) .

Justin Guitar good if you want videos.

DS should get the guitar that corresponds to the music he wants to play. Justin's opening videos include advice on choosing a guitar. It's really not ideal buying your first guitar sight unseen, but right now it's the only option. At least buy from a music shop, not from Amazon or Argos.

Rocksmith is a computer and console game, it's basically guitar hero but with a real guitar. Works best with an electric, but it can be used with an acoustic if it has a pickup.

Anybody got recommendations for a 3/4 classical guitar?
I'm currently dithering between Yamaha, Fender and a cheaper Encore.

I'm figuring that if I can sort his guitar I'll go for the full size for me.
