To take the dc to the supermarket (click and collect)

The nearest Tesco to me has released lots of click and collect slots, lots available so not taking away from a vulnerable person. Can I take the kids if they're not going to leave the car?

Yes

YinuCeatleAyru · 08/04/2020 07:41

if they will stay in the car then they aren't putting anyone else at risk. the only risk you will be taking is with eachother - if either you or one of the DC have it, then being shut into a car together for this would make transmission between you much more certain than just living in the same house together. if you are certain that's not a concern then go for it.

iVampire · 08/04/2020 07:42

If your DC are not old enough to be left home alone, then you’ll have to

reenon · 08/04/2020 07:48

I did this. It was fine. It was almost like an exciting day trip out for them Grin

islandofdoom · 08/04/2020 07:55

Yes I would do this with my ds

vanillandhoney · 08/04/2020 07:58

Of course you can - it's fine.

TreeTopTim · 08/04/2020 08:04

Why would you not think that this is ok?

Yes there have been stories about supermarkets banning children from entering their stores but they can not stop you from having them in your own car.

sleepingpup · 08/04/2020 08:05

course. that's fine.

clareOclareO · 08/04/2020 08:07

If they are old enough to leave at home, or there is someone else able to look after them, they should be left at home.

Fruitteatime · 08/04/2020 08:17

I'm sure that would be fine. I was wondering the same for a click and collect order at superdrug, but dd would have to come in with me. I could make it part of our daily walk and I wouldn't browse, just collect the order and go. I thought it might be less risky than a supermarket as less people traffic. Happy to hear if others think it's too risky though.

44PumpLane · 08/04/2020 08:26

I'm doing this on Friday, 3 year old twins can't be left home alone.

Being in the car is fine. They are social distancing from everyone other than their immediate household. We are going out for essential food pick up.... Absolutely fine.

user1493986150 · 08/04/2020 08:26

I would take them however I would say if you are able to go into the store and do your shop by yourself then please please do! I have a vulnerable child (chemo) at home, have a newborn baby and I have a heart condition myself so we are shielding as a household. Husband is terrified of going to the shops and bringing something back with him. But I’ve been trying to get a click and collect or home delivery slot with either Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury’s for well over a week and I cannot get one at all. The only person who can shop for us is my sibling who is also still working, has a pregnant wife at home and lives 40 minutes away so not ideal.

AlpacaGoodnight · 08/04/2020 08:29

Only if there is no one else at home to watch them and they are too young to be left alone

concernedforthefuture · 08/04/2020 08:35

Do you have the option to leave them at home? If so, go alone. Although the risk of them spreading / catching the virus is almost non existent if they stay in the car, the issue is if you have an accident or breakdown. The emergency services are then dealing with multiple people and not just one which adds to the risk of spreading disease. Plus if the accident was serious - that's multiple hospital beds that would be needed not one, possibly intensive care if really bad. I know it's a fairly unlikely scenario but still...

If you're a single parent then of course take them.

Incrediblytired · 08/04/2020 08:46

We did, to be honest just because I was working from hime and 2year old DD desperately needed a change of scene.

DH took her in the car, she stayed in her seat the whole time (and had a snooze on the way home) then when they got home I went and got her out of the car so DH could deal with he shopping and washing his hands thoroughly etc without touching her.

Goingunderground2 · 08/04/2020 09:01

We click and collected yesterday from a local wholesalers that's now open to the public worth a try for the ones struggling to get delivery/ supermarket click and collect.

The trip in the car did my dc the world of good. A change of scenery and something different!

00100001 · 08/04/2020 09:05

You could take them out if the car as well if you really wanted....
Literally nothing stopping you doing this.

Lazypuppy · 08/04/2020 10:22

Can't see what the issue is?

womaninatightspot · 14/04/2020 15:30

Took them for a click and collect it was fine. I think I had visions of police mooching around the car park demanding to know why we were all there!

Glad I'd ordered click and collect though as the queue for shopping was really long ( no children in it though). I appreciate that someone upthread was saying save them for the vulnerable but there were lots of slots. The bloke was saying they'd doubled their capacity for click and collect. I booked a slot for next week just now. Would love to shop fortnightly but tricky with 80 limit. Got pretty much everything on order including pasta, tinned tomatoes, baked beans and kitchen roll.
