So I got my email today.

The advice re driving people to and from hospital is to social distance, anti bac etc etc.

Would you wear a face mask and if so where do I get one from? Everywhere is sold out.

Antibac..? Confused

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 07/04/2020 23:06

do what they advise.

there are online patterns for making facemasks if it makes you feel safer, but I think they mostly protect others rather than you.
Improvise with a scarf around your face (just like Trump advised)

MadameBee · 07/04/2020 23:08

Yeah I was thinking about just wrapping a scarf around my face and making them sit in the back seat?

If you can do a running stitch there are loads on masks you can make on your tube.

Freddiefox · 07/04/2020 23:15

The thing with a scarf is that it slips down so you end up touching the front of it more to pulls it up. If you have hair bands you can and a staplers you can make one the won’t fall down.

MadameBee · 07/04/2020 23:15

The guidance is wash your hands and have anti bac Confused

I can’t sew.

They're still humans OP. Making them sit in the back seat Hmm Also, it's a virus. Hence Coronavirus. Hopefully they've sent you some guidance on how not to "other" the entire patient base.

Batfurger · 07/04/2020 23:17

The literature literally says "antibac"?

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 07/04/2020 23:19

Er, making them sit in the back seat is official guidance, for e.g. picking up someone from an airport. So OP is not 'othering' anyone Hmm

LilacTree1 · 07/04/2020 23:21

Um, I’d have thought if you’re driving strangers around, asking them to sit in the back is fair enough.

They’ll probably want to anyway. Imagine getting in can and sitting next to the driver if there’s space in the back!

OP can you get a sleep mask? Some of them are big enough to cover nose and mouth and they have elastic for adjusting.

Or can you clip a regular scarf to your hair with Kirby grips?

Batfurger · 07/04/2020 23:24

I'm sure it is official guidance, the Ops attitude isn't one I'd expect. Not sure she's reading her guidelines properly... probably came on for some virtue cookies.

Susanna85 · 07/04/2020 23:30

In our local morrison's supermarket there used to be a small IT repair shop. It has now turned in to a mask & hand sanitiser shop. Any chance there is something similar local to you? Perhaps ask on your neighbourhood Facebook page.

I don't think anyone would take offence to being asked to sit in the back of the car. They would probably prefer to anyway, I would.

Winter2020 · 07/04/2020 23:33

I think it would be best to keep the windows down as much as you can - weather and speed allowing.

LilacTree1 · 07/04/2020 23:33

“ Ops attitude isn't one I'd expect. ”

Your attitude isn’t exactly desirable.

OP I hope you find something. Definitely let your local community know you’re volunteering, if anyone has a spare mask, or can make one, or if they have hand sanitizer, they might be happy to help.

MadameBee · 07/04/2020 23:34

Virtue cookies Sad

I have loads of hand sanitisers from mine and DH day jobs.

OP posts:
LilacTree1 · 07/04/2020 23:37

Oh good, sanitizer sorted

These are the sorts of sleep masks I meant - massive! Will cover nose and mouth, turn it upside down. Friends abroad have done this.
