Officials 180 on use of face masks

Seems one by one western government and health bodies are now doing an almost complete 180 on use of face masks, now falling in line with what has been common practice throughout Asia for decades. Yes, yes I know the fear about not having enough to go round (why were we all so unprepared for the one day inevitable flu pandemic?) .
But the fact remains they either:
A) they all spent two months giving us all very bad advice on a matter of vital importance
B) they were willfully lying/misleading the public on a matter of vital importance

Personally I think it’s B).
I don’t believe this “evolving science” narrative that gets parroted every time there is a serious political/policy error. I knew people shouldn’t be packing out stadiums at the beginning of March and I knew people should cover their faces in crowded enclosed areas to stop a disease that can be spread by orally (and which can have hidden symptoms). Just fucking common sense. What were they thinking?

Probably more a case of everyone learning as we go a long! It’s a completely new virus, unprecedented in scale in a time of modern travel and proximity of lives. No one is going to have all the answers from day one

Interesting article on the use of face masks during this.
"Before putting on a mask, clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.

Cover mouth and nose with mask and make sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask.

Avoid touching the mask while using it; if you do, clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.

Replace the mask with a new one as soon as it is damp and do not re-use single-use masks.

To remove the mask: remove it from behind (do not touch the front of mask); discard immediately in a closed bin; clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water."
