and an ideal time now the Labour party have a new leader. probably not. We need stability and continuity at the moment. They’d never cooperate properly.

But let’s not jump the gun.

limpbizkit · 06/04/2020 23:10

Poor Boris. He's being talked about like he's not actually a human being and unwell. I wish him all the very best in his recovery

OldLace · 06/04/2020 23:13

We need a cross party 'War Cabinet'

Boris Johnson needs time to recover and Raab / Hancock don't inspire much confidence.

It is a really difficult time.

We could do with Boris' recovery.

DarnedSocks · 06/04/2020 23:13

We don't have the same setup as North Korea.

Makeitgoaway · 06/04/2020 23:14

I did wonder at Chris Whitty's answers this afternoon. He was right of course, the exact details of the PM's health are between him and his doctors but there must be a point when it becomes the business of the people?

justgivemewine · 06/04/2020 23:14

jedijim totally agree,

and if they can be furloughed it should be done on the same basis as UC, ie if you have more than £xk in savings/investment you shouldnt qualify.

Dylaninthemovies1 · 06/04/2020 23:15

What about dishy Rishi? Shouldn’t he be the man in charge

MurrayTheMonk · 06/04/2020 23:17

now would be the time for a cross party crisis coalition I think.

Balmytissues · 06/04/2020 23:19

I only mentioned it as people seem to only associate ventilation with ICU whereas there is constant care going on, even despite ventilation. ICU is INTENSIVE care.

longwayoff · 06/04/2020 23:20

Raab eh? Bloody hellGrin however, imagine if slithery Gove and his Lady Macbeth missus got their sticky mitts on the keys to No 10? Shudder, doesn't bear thinking about. Shock

Balmytissues · 06/04/2020 23:21

Makeitgoaway Things change hourly and daily when you're ill enough to require ICU, but there's a massive wider input involved than just one consultant.

YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 06/04/2020 23:21

Raab reminds me of Rik Mayall. A creepy Richie/Alan B’Stard hybrid.

Balmytissues · 06/04/2020 23:26

And yes it's touch and go whether you survive ICU again depending what has landed you in there. Boris is too bullish not to survive lol.
The only thing I'll say is that after 2 weeks in ICU, I was a week before I could walk again. My muscles just didn't work. There are some nasty elements to it too, you've a tube to feed you (if you're unconscious) and you also have a tube up your butt for waste. That's only if you're in a coma though I suppose.

LellyMcKelly · 06/04/2020 23:27

Raab is a greasy knob.

bringincrazyback · 06/04/2020 23:27

This probably is ridiculous but I was wondering whether there was a possibility of a cross party government to deal with cv 19.

Probably not, but I too wish there was.

crustycrab · 06/04/2020 23:32

Jesus Christ. Will you listen to yourselves?

Alsohuman · 06/04/2020 23:39

now would be the time for a cross party crisis coalition I think

That’s far too sensible.

caringcarer · 06/04/2020 23:39

Raab said Boris gave him instructions in a phone call this evening before he was admitted to ICU. Decisions to be made in next couple of weeks are whether to make soft lockdown longer, for another 2-3 weeks or not, whether to make us have full lockdown with no excercise if idiots still go out, how many ventilators/testing kits to buy. Raab may be in charge but it could be worse, May could still be in charge with her dithering.

Aesopfable · 06/04/2020 23:39

Raab is only a temporary standin chosen by Boris. If need be a new PM would be appointed by the Conservative party/cabinet.

caringcarer · 06/04/2020 23:46

Boris put Raab in charge because he is a strong Brexiteer. The country voted Conservatives in and to leave EU by Dec 31st. Labour got very few votes. Even their own voters voted against them. No justification for letting Labour make decisions on behalf of our country.

BringMeSunshineInMyLife · 06/04/2020 23:47

however, imagine if slithery Gove and his Lady Macbeth missus got their sticky mitts on the keys to No 10? Shudder, doesn't bear thinking about

If Boris dies there would be an election for leader of the party and this is a very possible outcome

She was so vile about Meghan Markle-taking the lead from Piers Morgan- she really let herself down.

Alsohuman · 06/04/2020 23:49

We need every brain available working on this. This is no time for party politics.

Wakemeuuuup · 06/04/2020 23:51

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Raab looks and sounds like Rik Mayall

MrsSnitchnose · 07/04/2020 00:04

Oh thanks @YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus I just needed that mental image, I'll never be able to look at him in the same way now 😂

PersonaNonGarter · 07/04/2020 00:12

Dominic Raab is deputising because he is respected by the Prime Minister and by other cabinet colleagues. He has also been attending the Coronavirus briefings so is up to date.

He is a very clever capable guy. (That weird Dover-Calais comment was an error not a belief). We will be absolutely fine and it will be a team effort.

Raab-Gove-Hancock-Sunak. They will operate as a team together with scientists and doctors. It will be fine.

Raab did look gutted at that press briefing though. He knows his colleague is seriously ill.
