To think playing the radio outside in a built up area is selfish?

I try to get along with neighbours but AIBU to think it is selfish to have a radio blaring outside all day? We all have smallish gardens. It's still on at almost 7pm, and we can hear it loudly inside our house. It's also stopped us going in our garden all day. Am I just old and grumpy or is this a bit off?

Don't mind the radio so much. It's a welcome change from the badly played electric guitar and awful shouting/singing from the teenager or the constant shouts of 'Alexa, alexa, ALEXA'! from the younger ones. YANBU though, playing music quietly next to you is one thing but when it can be heard several houses away it's pretty antisocial.

Very selfish and would bother me enormously. Same thing with dogs, it feels like it's cutting through my brain (though realise I might be more sensitive to noise than most)

TheVanguardSix · 07/04/2020 16:35

Very selfish!
I have kids, dogs, speakers, small garden stuffed into a patchwork of other small gardens. We're all too close and packed in. I make it my business to monitor my noise levels. It's just respectful, isn't it?
We have the loud, shouty dad neighbour with his loud, shouty music, and his loud, shouty kids and it really gets on my nerves. I can't have my doors open for long on these sunny days without it getting to me after a while. There's the normal noise level and then there's this family. They're just so shouty. They shout their conversations. They blare their music. It's just so 'I don't give two fucks!' isn't it?
It's a first-world problem, but it doesn't stop it from getting on my tits.

Not unreasonable. I think it's very selfish to inflict noise on your neighbours like that. We ended up moving because of noisy neighbours once. I wouldn't inflict my music choices on everyone else and I don't want to listen to theirs. It's very intrusive and takes away enjoyment of your (one's) garden.

YANBU

An hour or so when people can go out and escape it is bad enough, but when everyone's stuck at home it’s selfish. We’ve had music next door all day now. I've not been in my back garden at all, because it’s just too much.

And posting on mn helps how?????

chomalungma · 07/04/2020 17:44

Family on our street are known for doing this. In front garden, loud music.

TBF - they haven't been so bad at the moment.

But it is selfish. If it's loud.

@littlemeitslyn it’s called “venting”
85% of MN is venting ...Are you new to the site or something ?

Thanks so much for your responses. Thankfully the weather has turned so they are back inside now, but it's a shame it ruins sunny days in the garden.
