To think TV should show more feel good repeats?

For those people without Netflix etc, what repeats would cheer you up? My top ones would be:

Downtown Abbey (to drool over the Abbey and outfits)
Relocation Relocation (Kirstie and Phil always make me laugh)
The Americans (fantastic US spy drama)

I'd like to watch Adrian Mole again. Somebody on a books thread mentioned the original diary and it reminded me of the TV show.

Oh and old episodes of Grange Hill

Need to regress...

FlamingoAndJohn · 06/04/2020 17:36

The BBC are also showing an Ealing comedy every day at 3.

PhantomErik · 06/04/2020 17:38

We're re-watching Breaking Bad. Not exactly 'feel good' but has definately taken our minds of the current situation.

ArriettyJones · 06/04/2020 17:39

The BBC are also showing an Ealing comedy every day at 3.

Now that is good for morale.

june2007 · 06/04/2020 17:40

No not more repeats.

dontcallmelen · 06/04/2020 17:41

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz snap I thought I was the only person in the whole world who ever watched ‘Roger & Val just got in’ such a sublime piece of writing & acting.

Icare1234 · 06/04/2020 17:43

No not more repeats.
Think we better get used to them. No productions will be filmed for ages so they’ll have to repeat at some point. (I don’t know how far ahead shows such as dramas and non topical comedy is filmed).

Mykittensaremyfriends · 06/04/2020 17:44

Cutting It
Desperate Housewives

ArriettyJones · 06/04/2020 17:47

(I don’t know how far ahead shows such as dramas and non topical comedy is filmed).

Anything from 4-12 months. So the drought of new television drama will hit later this year and in 2021.

Winterwoollies · 06/04/2020 17:50

You’re a woman after my own heart! I love watching old British sitcoms and dramas, I just find them so soothing in times of crisis. I’m currently rewatching all the early Jonathan Creeks. So entertaining.

middleager · 06/04/2020 17:51

I used to watch Roger & Val and agree.

Esther Rantzen said that during WW2 the BBC would show uplifting, feelgood shows.

I fear we might get more Last of the Summer Wine and Mrs Brown's Boys if we are not careful.

I've enjoyed Jamie's cookery programme and would welcome a show of practical advice, though it's hardly escapism!

eddiemairswife · 06/04/2020 18:04

The BBC didn't show any thing during the war. I remember Workers' Playtime, Variety Bandbox and Children's Hour.

BerthaBear · 06/04/2020 20:14

Most new TV productions have currently stalled, so we may be getting more repeats for a while. I am enjoying re-runs of House Doctor on Channel 5. The American lady, Ann Maurice, is hilarious in her criticisms of houses that aren't selling.

I would like more cookery programmes. I miss the old Jamie and Nigella ones

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 06/04/2020 20:21

there's loads of re-runs on BBC - and iPlayer

I really only watch BBC because I can't bear adverts, but I presume other channels are similar.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/04/2020 20:54

ITV should show 'the upper hand' in honour of the legendary Honour Blackman who has died today. That was a lovely sitcom

UnitedRoad · 06/04/2020 20:54

I loved Roger and Val. I’d love to watch it again.

There are so many old things I’d love to rewatch, but they never get repeated.

Linda Green (I don’t think the second series has been repeated)
Dream Team
The Cops
City Central
Burn It
Holby Blue
Staying Alive

There was another cop drama that I loved from the same era, but I’ve forgotten what it was called.

The Gemma Factor (I swear I was the only person to watch this)

UnitedRoad · 06/04/2020 21:01

Merseybeat!

Husband and I are watching a Pie in the Sky on (I think) U.K. gold or U.K. drama at the moment. That’s brilliant comfort watching.

fartyface · 06/04/2020 21:01

yes minister.
I love that!

ArriettyJones · 06/04/2020 22:55

there's loads of re-runs on BBC - and iPlayer

The (curated) “From the Archive” category on BBC I player throws up some absolute treasure from time to time and you can search the available archive too.

BerthaBear · 07/04/2020 15:33

Bettyboo - The Good Life would be a good one to watch during these times.

Channel 5 has each day next week at 8pm 'Springtime on the Farm', with Helen Skelton. Not a repeat, but who can resist seeing lambs being born! Also will include Lady Carnarvon pig farming at Highclere Castle (AKA Downton Abbey). Just need Lady Mary to make an appearance as well.

OddBoots · 07/04/2020 15:40

Dave has got a good one tonight (if you have a dark sense of humour) I believe there will be a commentary from cast/writer too.

Esther Rantzen said that during WW2 the BBC would show uplifting, feelgood shows.

Eh????????????????????????????????????????????

The television service, such as it was at the time, was suspended during the war and did not resume until 1946.

noworklifebalance · 07/04/2020 15:47

Gilmore Girls - just loved it
