Please bring your children to hospital if you are concerned about them? (posting this in AIBU for traffic) Please don't let what is going on at the moment stop you seeking medical advice if you are worried. Please don't sit on the phone to 111 for over an hour if you are concerned about your child, you are allowed to go to hospital without consulting 111 first.
My team and others across the country are dealing with alot of late presentation very sick children and there are concerns this is happening because people are worried about going to a hospital. If even one person reads this and feel they can seek medical help in this climate then I'm happy. Just because this awful illness exists, it doesn't mean other bugs and illnesses have gone away.

Noted! Thanks.

Jellybean27 · 05/04/2020 19:38

Absolutely!

Thank you. My son hurt his foot on the trampoline yesterday and I am worried about whether it is sprained or broken. I don't honestly know what to do.

Mseddy · 05/04/2020 20:28

@ladyluna16 if you would have taken him to A&E about this 2 months ago before all of this, then you should still take him now. Most hospitals (if not all by now) have "hot" and "cold" zones. As long as you arent in isolation and are asymptomatic you will be kept in the "cold" part of the hospital. If your son has a broken ankle, it needs medical attention. Although a broken ankle isn't life threatening, leaving a broken bone not set correctly could lead to bigger problems later on.

Do not go to hospital for trivial matters- can't people understand this?

Shinyletsbebadguys · 05/04/2020 20:35

Err how are you not getting what the very sensible OP is saying and the fact she is clearly a frontline paediatric professional?

LadyLuna16 · 05/04/2020 20:42

I think in normal circumstances I would also be seeing how it is and not rushing to A&E. He has not needed any pain relief, it’s not hot and not very bruised, but he is limping. that is good to know about hot and cold areas though - thanks

Thank you for posting this OP. I think for a lot of people it’s the worry of “wasting” medical staff’s time and trying to cope at home for as long as possible. My dd (6) became very unwell a week ago, she’s literally never ill and I honestly didn’t know what to do, I was torn between desperately wanting help to “save the nhs”.

bonnieclydesdale · 05/04/2020 23:59

Save your daughter if she's very unwell.

Likethebattle · 06/04/2020 00:08

@LadyLuna16 please try to get him to stop
Limping as much as possible. It may be hard but my doctor told me it may cause changes to your gait.

Phoenix76 · 06/04/2020 10:57

Don't worry, of course I chose the former, it's just that with all the news about how much pressure the nhs are under and how 111 are hour long queues if you're lucky it made me pause to think, what do I do? Ordinarily I wouldn't rush to a hospital with her symptoms but I definitely needed medical guidance.
