Energy Drinks

So every night, I either drink a can of Monster or Red Bull, but according to my family, I should only drink one a week. I know that it’s bad for my health, but I’ve told them it’s my decision. When I said this to them, they accused me of being selfish. AIBU?

There was something on the tv recently about a guy who drank one can a day for a while who died. Maybe they saw that show?

Tonz · 05/04/2020 16:50

The amount of redbull I drink is crazy and I'm always told off for it as well

Hilda40 · 05/04/2020 16:53

Why at night?

Guyonhere1 · 05/04/2020 16:53

@Hilda40
It refreshes me before I sleep

Are you 13

slashlover · 05/04/2020 16:57

Why do you drink it? Is it a need? Is it the flavour?

cardibach · 05/04/2020 16:58

Energy drinks have Caffeine in. I’m sure your sleep would be better without.

Windyatthebeach · 05/04/2020 16:59

My healthy ds 25 had a suspected heart attack.. He had an energy drink daily habit.
Dr said it was a warning and he had to stop asap.

He didn't and his MH has greatly suffered.
Anxiety, panic attacks and depression...
Dr said def a connection..

I can drink sooo many energy drinks, multiple a day if left to my own devices, it's not even the energy it's the taste. But I've gone cold turkey, I'm so scared of it causing some kind of throat or stomach cancer or diabetes, the ingredients can't do anything but bad stuff. I'm generally healthy otherwise, slim with a varied diet, but I was genuinely worried it would cause something bad to happen.

I don't know how you can drink at night though!

User202004 · 05/04/2020 17:01

Oh and I was getting heart palpitations 😬 I wish I liked coffee.

Willow2017 · 05/04/2020 17:02

13.5 teaspoons of sugar would refresh anyone! although not long term when you are not burning said sugar off while you sleep

starrysimon · 05/04/2020 17:03

Before I got pregnant again I really liked most of them. Especially Red Bull I love the taste I don’t just drink it because it’s an energy drink. If you don’t drink coffee or anything else with caffeine in it as well as the energy drinks then you should be fine OP! To do some serious damage you’d probably have to drink 2L+ of the stuff per day. My DM has drank 20+ cups of coffee a day my whole life and that’s much worse IMO

moveandmove · 05/04/2020 17:04

Disgusting stuff. Why do you want to be refreshed before you sleep? Surely you want to be winding down and sleepy?

OhhhPeee · 05/04/2020 17:05

I have never heard of being refreshed before you sleep. That’s what the sleep is for!

It’s your choice, OP. Do you have any other vices they’re concerned about?

Guyonhere1 · 05/04/2020 17:06

@starrysimon thanks, I don’t drink coffee, so my caffeine intake is from energy drinks.

I normally drink two a day, slightly more now that I'm at home all day.

Guyonhere1 · 05/04/2020 17:13

@PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock Exactly, it’s like saying to someone who might be overweight to stop eating so much. You just wouldn’t say that

Well, looks like you'll have to learn your lessons the hard way.

There's no sugar coating it. You're consuming far too much sugar at once. Isn't there like 27g if sugar in 1 can of monster? It will settle on your body at some point. Personally I'd be scared to attack my teeth like that when there's no dentists available for toothache. Brushing soon after one of those things will do more damage to your enamel.

But you crack on Grin

SpoonBlender · 05/04/2020 17:37

Tossing sugar and stimulants down your throat last thing in the evening is a peculiar way to get to sleep, but whatever. Unless you have underlying medical conditions, are obese, or have/are on the edge of type-2 diabetes it's not likely to do anything to you.

Does seem entirely pointless though.

dkanin · 05/04/2020 17:40

I'm not sure why you drink them at bed time. I have sugar free red bulls if I'm exceptionally tired or if I'm driving a long way, to perk me up. I can't drink them every day otherwise they loose effect and it takes more cans to wake me up. I prefer to have a can of Coke Zero to refresh me and save things with more caffeine for if I'm really tired so they actually help. I don't know how you can drink the sugary ones though

Happierwithouthim · 05/04/2020 17:44

I don't drink any other caffeine based drinks but would only have sugar free energy drink maybe once a week & find you pay for the energy rush later. Love the taste too
