Has anyone heard anything from Cumbrian Cottages or similar companies

We usually go to the Lake District and rent a cottage for a week at Easter. Didn't book this year as a relative was seriously ill. We want to book a cottage for the summer holidays and Cumbrian Cottages are taking bookings for June.

However, they don't have a statement on their website about Covid-19, haven't replied to my email about cancellations and the usual telephone number is now only taking enquiries from owners.

Anyone got a cottage booked with them and had any communication?

You’d be insane to book anything for June.

We should have been away this week. Cottages.com contacted us about 3 weeks ago and said our booking could be rebooked when the crisis was over any time in the next 12 months. They will have a massive backlog to deal with before they take new business.

I’m not expecting to get anywhere this year, we have holidays in Spain and Italy for July and August and I’ve mentally written them off.

just5morepeas · 05/04/2020 10:21

You want to book a holiday for June? Are you serious?!

Movinghouseatlast · 05/04/2020 10:25

I would wait too.

They have probably had to furlough their staff. Many small cottage companies are really struggling as they have had to refund deposits. That has most likely left them in a lot of debt.

So please book with them in future. I own cottages- as my job- and we have lost our income.

I said summer holidays which for us is end July and August.

We won't be going abroad so wanted something in the UK. August should be ok but I'm trying to find out their COVID-19 cancellation policy as I know our annual travel insurance won't cover it.

No, I said Cumbrian Cottages website is allowing bookings from June.

Movinghouse - CC is not a small company and whilst they have probably furloughed many staff they could still put a statement on their website/social media.

My initial post still stands and you didn’t make it clear when you were intending to go.

You’re not getting away this year. All the properties would already be booked for peak season anyway and the restrictions will probably continue to make it a moot point.

Stop being obtuse and disingenuous op.

feliciabirthgiver · 05/04/2020 10:37

OP your post was perfectly clear when you intended to travel.

Even if you can't make a booking with then enjoy window shopping for now, I wasted a whole afternoon yesterday browsing holiday cottages for whoever this is all over.

cansu · 05/04/2020 10:38

People like to plan and I understand that you would like to think that is still possible but you are being a bit deluded to thnk you could do this. If you think about all those who had booked and had their cottage cancelled but no refund, it is very, very unlikely that you will
a have a booking accepted
b be able to go - chances are there will still be social distancing rules and restrictions of some kind

SkaLaLand · 05/04/2020 10:47

We have a UK holiday booked for mid August. I am living in hope that we will still be able to go and am still paying my last couple of installments in April and May.

I understand OP as I really really need this to happen so that I have something to look forward to but I am preparing as best I can to have to write it off. Hopefully I will get a partial if not full refund if the parks are still closed.

If you book now you would likely struggle to get travel insurance to cover you in the event lockdown is still in place. Also, wouldn't be likely to get a refund as booking when you know you can't guarantee to be able to attend is likely at your own risk.

LaurenBacallmefrommyhead2mytoe · 05/04/2020 10:56

And you stop being so rude. Have you had dealings recently with Cumbrian Cottages or a similar holiday letting company? If yes then please share your experience, if not - why are you interested in this thread?

OP posts:
SlipSlidin · 05/04/2020 10:58

Did you even bother to read my post? Yes I have had dealings with Cottages.com which I made very clear to you.

If you think someone being direct is rude, that’s your issue not mine.

Theresnobslikeshowb · 05/04/2020 11:05

LaurenBacallmefrommyhead2mytoe If you read the posts SlipSlidin made it quite clear she is talking from experience as you asked. I don’t believe she was rude at all, just answering your question honestly.

SlipSlidin · 05/04/2020 11:08

@Theresnobslikeshowb thanks for that.

LaurenBacallmefrommyhead2mytoe · 05/04/2020 11:08

Ah yes, I see Cottages.com aren't giving refunds but are offering to re-book so you'll be stuffed if they go bust. Is that right?

Anyone actually heard from Cumbrian Cottages?

OP posts:
maggiecate · 05/04/2020 11:23

The Cumbrian Cottages homepage has a link to a Covid-19 update from their parent company Cottages.Com

www.cottages.com/covid-19

Has anyone heard anything from Cumbrian Cottages or similar companies
lovelyupnorth · 05/04/2020 11:26

Cumbrian Cottages is owned by Wyndham's who also own cottages.com hoeseasons etc. They are a massive company and so far not helping anyone from want I can see

SlipSlidin · 05/04/2020 11:43

Apology accepted op....oh wait...

No I won’t be “stuffed”, I booked on a credit card and have travel insurance.

Cottages.com have been fairly decent with their communication.

LaurenBacallmefrommyhead2mytoe · 05/04/2020 11:46

Thank you @maggiecate - good to see they have finally issued a statement (unless I just haven't seen it before). Looks like they're not offering refunds.

Slipslidin are you self isolating, shielding or in some other way vulnerable?

OP posts:
user1473878824 · 05/04/2020 11:50

@LaurenBacallmefrommyhead2mytoe why are you being so rude to everyone?

SlipSlidin · 05/04/2020 12:08

What difference does it make if I’m self isolating? You’re very odd op. And that statement has been on their website for over 3 weeks. If you bothered to read things properly you wouldn’t have even needed to start this thread where you continued not to read anything properly. You seem to struggle with basic communication and you’re very rude.

LaurenBacallmefrommyhead2mytoe · 05/04/2020 12:23

Take care of yourself, Slip - you seem to be spoiling for a fight with a random on the internet ...

I've got my answer (thanks to maggiecat) and am off for my daily stroll in the sunshine so won't be engaging with you further Smile
