To think you should not be mowing the lawn before 8 on a Sunday!

That’s it really.

The German rules are very civilised. And nobody needs to mow their lawn, they just want to have something to do at a weekend. It's better for the wildlife if you leave it a few weeks between mows rather than doing it every few days.

In normal times you might want to do it early because you're going out for the day but nobody is doing that at the moment are they (other than work I suppose but then presumably you get a different day off when you could do it).

LouiseCollina · 05/04/2020 08:21

God bless your patience when the second one started up, I’d have a complete fit!

dontdisturbmenow · 05/04/2020 08:25

I was oh so tempted to do so this morning. That's after having had to endure an entire afternoon and evening yesterday of children next door screaming and shouting in the garden, parents totally oblivious, letting their kids argue and throw tantrums. It ruined any chance of us enjoying our garden and ended up having to go inside just so we didn't end up totally stress and shouting things at them.

So yes, giving them a bit of their own medicine would have been satisfying, but I can't get myself to fall into a war of disturbance. I'm sure this afternoon will be just as bad and once again, we will have to forfeit enjoying our own garden.

Could it be that your neighbour is passing on a message by doing it? I bet if I had done so, my neighbour would have been oblivious to why I was being so unconsiderate because they clearly don't care at all that their kids are a complete nuisance.

soannya · 05/04/2020 08:28

Why was he mowing something behind garages that isn’t even his garden?? Weird.

soannya · 05/04/2020 08:29

and that early on a Sunday! Some people are so strange. I always wait until after 9 on a Sunday to even let the kids in the garden.

NameChangedToProtect1 · 05/04/2020 08:32

@Soannya
I often de-weed the pavements by my house, what is strange about clearing up a communal area?

Bubblysqueak · 05/04/2020 08:34

I completely get it...but, my front lawn desperately needs cutting, however, we live on a busy main road which most people in the village walk along on their daily exercise. If I'm out cutting the grass at an acceptable time I would have to keep stopping and moving close to my house to insure social distancing as every man and his dog walks past. So I have a choice of cutting it early/late or letting it grow (which I am doing as I'm lazy and still in bed) . So in this kind of situation I think it is justified to cut it so early. However if it's just someone cutting they're back garden in safety , then they're completely inconsiderate.

NameChangedToProtect1 · 05/04/2020 08:34

Perhaps it's me but Sunday is just another day! Mon- Fri I'm up at 5 so sat/sun I like to sleep longer, there is not a mower in this world that would wake me! Perhaps if it is waking you you're not so tired!

Lucky you. Many people can't get back to sleep if they're woken, especially if it's daylight.

Glad you found him, OP, and that he apologised- I guess it was just thoughtlessness.

iwishiwasonhol · 05/04/2020 08:42

next door was doing theirs at 7.15 this morn, with their music blasting ,yes I was up but still a little too early no matter what day of the week it is

PhoneLock · 05/04/2020 08:43

We mow the grass verge along the lane we live in because we like it neat and not overgrown. Everybody in the village does the same if they can. If they can't, somebody else will do it for them.

Lazyllama · 05/04/2020 08:50

They'll be doing it early so they can get the pressure washer out at 10 followed by a bonfire mid afternoon with some banging and drilling in between.

NameChangedToProtect1 · 05/04/2020 08:55

Now bonfires are a menace! Your "nice bonfire" fills my 3yo room with smoke and makes my chest hurt. Grrr!

Scarlettpixie · 05/04/2020 09:01

No noise until after 9 on Sundays.

lilyheather1 · 05/04/2020 09:08

10am is quite late for a lot of people. No noise until 9am absolutely, but I wouldn't mind of someone started mowing between 9am and 10am.

Scruffyoak · 05/04/2020 09:09

I dont think it would disturb me at all!

SuburbanFraggle · 05/04/2020 09:20

I was woken yesterday at 7 am by a noisy motorcycle going round and round our cul-de-sac in circles. So noisy I genuinely thought it was construction at first.

Selfish fucks

Lordfrontpaw · 05/04/2020 09:26

I’ve noticed that it’s noisier around here at night. We are in the city centre but it really is silent at night (apart from any celebration night when it’s like a war zone). Now it’s become every night/early hours you can hear people quite loudly - sitting on balconies, windows wide open. Last night for example one guy was just hollering from 10 until about 1:30 - I assume Skype and alcohol may have been a factor as I didn’t hear anyone else.

The man downstairs is still bloody yelling at the top of his bloody voice (he’s been up since about 6:30). He has the loudest voice and loves the sound of it. Working from home is a delight (upstairs equally loud and they love their Joe Wix!).

Whoopsmahoot · 05/04/2020 09:40

Yup, unreasonable. I don’t go near mine until lunchtime.

PinkiOcelot · 05/04/2020 09:44

@BillywilliamV every day might be a Sunday for you but it isn’t for a hell of a lot of people, me included!!

Lordfrontpaw · 05/04/2020 10:04

Oh god is Wix on now? I think my ceiling is about to fall in.

Doryhunky · 05/04/2020 21:49

PP mentioned a bonfire. At dusk today someone had a bonfire up the same alleyway. Don’t know if it was the man mowing at 730 am.
