Childs birthday during lockdown...

Emcont · 04/04/2020 20:15

My youngest turns 5 next month. If the lockdown is extended then I'll obviously not be able to get out to buy her anything.

What is everyone else doing who is in this situation? Are you still ordering things?

My DD 4th birthday in just over a week. We were meant to go to euro disney tomorrow ☹️

I've got her a few bits from Argos as that's still open here. I'll bake a cake. I'm a bit gutted I can get helium balloons for the morning when she wakes up. She wants a trampoline but we aren't getting that until all this passes.

Dishwashersaurous · 04/04/2020 22:05

Err Amazon

Curious78 · 04/04/2020 22:11

My little one is 4 in a few days, I ordered a few bits through Amazon a couple weeks ago and they all took quicker than it said they would, however do allow plenty of time for items to arrive. I was able to buy the vital ingredient, flour, to make her a lovely cake and there's going to be lots of balloons, party tunes and an online party lunch with some of her friends. There's only the two of us around here so I want to try and do what I can to make it special for her

Aragog · 05/04/2020 09:08

Well it's DD's 18th today and her presents and decorations are all online deliveries, though the bigger decorations came before 'lockdown' for the planned party.

But Apple, Amazon, Moonpig and more have made sure that we can still celebrate at home, including the virtual online drinks with family and friends later!

Happy Birthday to your daughter Aragog, I have teenagers and think they find it harder not seeing their friends, particularly on a milestone like your 18th. Hope she has a fab day with you.

Chillicheese123 · 05/04/2020 12:32

We have had dd’s birthday. Got extra treats with our click and collect shop including a Colin the caterpillar type cake ! Baked cookies with her. I had some present bits in already but ordered her some bunting, craft stuff and puzzles off amazon. Main present was some new trainers I got from JD and clothes. Also put her some money in a card. Tbh it was how I’d normally prep for a birthday minus actually going and getting balloons from a local shop and doing an actual supermarket shop.

Monr0e · 05/04/2020 12:36

My DD will be 10 on Friday. It's hard, we should have been in Disneyland paris and had a party booked for the following weekend but it will be fine.

I ordered a few things from Amazon
I've picked up ingredients to make a cake with our shopping plus extra little gifts and treats
She will have her favourite food for tea
I've also asked her school friends and family to send her a little birthday message, going to try and put them all together into a little video for her to watch so she knows people are thinking of her

ToriaPumpkin · 05/04/2020 12:41

My daughter is six in a fortnight. We've ordered her presents, or picked them up in our tesco shop and grandparents are having things delivered here in case they can't visit any time soon. We'll havr a cake and she can choose dinner.

There are four birthdays in her class over the next month, and then a few more over summer, so we've already agreed that once things get back to normal (whenever that is) we'll have a giant party for all the missed birthdays which has given her and her friends something to look forward to.

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 05/04/2020 12:42

DD turned 7 a couple of weeks ago. We had pancakes for breakfast, she video chatted and phoned all family members. Their presents to her will get opened when we can go visit again.

Played games, had movie night and birthday cake for movie snack.

The weather is getting better, can you set up a picnic in the garden if you have one? Living room floor if not. Just make it a fun day. No housework being done, play games etc.

There have been a few lock down birthday threads with loads of ideas in them for activities.

Howcanwehelp · 05/04/2020 12:45

For little ones in the UK there are party organisers doing online parties or birthday messages in costume, it might be an interesting surprise for a little one as well as helping someone who has lost their liviehood.

OlaEliza · 05/04/2020 12:51

I'll obviously not be able to get out to buy her anything.

Spend time playing games. Do art. Watch a film. Make things. Facetime people. So many more things to make a bday memorable than material shit.

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 05/04/2020 12:54

My daughter was 18 last week. We decorated the dining room with banners from our party cupboard including one that read "Birthday Boy" which we edited to read "girl". Her oldest sister joined us for breakfast online and her brothers phoned her as well.

It was not the day we had planned but the absurdity of sitting round the dining table with balloons hanging from the light fitting (no helium balloons so we improvised) and playing board games made it a day to remember.

It was a good day and we all enjoyed it but at 18 it is reasonable to cope with the disappointment of a cancelled party, it's not as easy when you're 5.

Iwantcollarbones · 05/04/2020 12:59

It was my dd 18th earlier this week. She’s studying abroad so we weren’t able to fly out as planned. Luckily she is staying with my brother and his wife and they were amazing. They made her a cake and the chicken pie she always asks for as her birthday meal. I’d already arranged a delivery of flowers and balloons but I spotted this card which she appreciated. The entire family met up online and we played games and had a drink.

What she had planned is on hold for when this is all over but I think she still managed to enjoy the day.

DS is turning 5 next week. We ordered stuff on Amazon and we will make a cake. I bought a cake topper. Planning to do an Easter egg hunt, a BBQ, house full of bubbles and balloons and lots of face time chats with friends. He was upset that his party was cancelled but I think he'll still enjoy it to be honest!

Runnerduck34 · 05/04/2020 13:03

Daughters 21st birthday last week.and youngest daughter's 13th birthday tomorrow, you can order gifts online, can also order from argos and pick up from a store inside Sainsbury's or have delivered. Have noticed thou in the week between eldest DD birthday and youngest DD birthday delivery times have more than doubled and things are selling out, so dont leave it until the last minute!
Also had balloons and birthday banners delivered. For DDs 21st went on family bike ride, played games and managed to order and collect takeway from local Italian restaurant so there are options out there 😀

custardbear · 05/04/2020 13:10

Yes, DS turned 8, ordered presents from amazon, cake from supermarket whilst food shopping, had an online party with his friends using Zoom on the computer - he loved it!

sleepyhead · 05/04/2020 14:05

Ds2 is 7 next week.

He's had parcels through the post from Amazon, eBay & J Lewis & I got birthday banner, balloons, cards, candles etc during the weekly Tesco shop.

He's chosen his favourite foods, we've got a new PlayStation game for us all to play that we've been saving for his birthday and we'll also start the free Disney trial and he can choose a Marvel movie to watch.

The extended family will join via Zoom for cake cutting and happy birthday singing.

Hello I just wanted to put it out there that I am a professional bubbleologist and stiltwalker who is based in Brighton and happy to come and do some socially distanced entertainment for reduced rates in your garden or doorstep. Working in the entertainment industry, my diary as you can imagine is pretty open right now.

berryhead2013 · 27/05/2020 20:32

My daughter is 6 on Saturday we went Amazon mental and bought her stuff from there and picked up balloons and decorations from the super market

Sixgeese · 27/05/2020 20:43
