To be secretly gleeful because DH is a prat who never listens to me

We are laying a new floor in the study. All the crap had to be removed including a 4 tier filing cabinet. The weight would be phenomenal.

So I said all the files needed to come out and then we move it. He said it would take too long.

DH then says I'll just take out the drawers. He struggles with a full size drawer full of files, bends the side bits, something falls off, ball bearings fall out and he almost falls over under weight of the heavy drawer full of files. Bloody farcical.

I then remove all the files out of 4 drawers in less then 10 minutes.

He has been up there for at least an hour trying to fix the drawer. Not succeeded yet

Aibu to keep biting my tongue and not saying I told you so? I sooo want to

Naw. Just leave him to it. Practise raising one eyebrow for when he emerges.

Ponoka7 · 04/04/2020 19:35

No need to say it out loud, let your facial expressions say it for you.

PriscillaPresley · 04/04/2020 19:37

That's the sort of thing my DH would do. You have my sympathies OP.

billy1966 · 04/04/2020 19:38

@Ponoka7
Exactly this...far more enjoyable 😗😂

BrooHaHa · 04/04/2020 19:39

Sometimes you have to let them learn from their own mistakes.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 04/04/2020 19:39

Sounds like dh and I. I usually just serenely go about my business and don’t mention it - secretly laughing to myself whilst he seethes!

JohnCo · 04/04/2020 19:40

I love this, I hate it when my DW is right and I am so wrong. Not totally true as I do listen to her and learn from her.

Drogonssmile · 04/04/2020 19:40

I find it better to stay silent. Sometimes they wait for the "I told you so" to snap at you. Silence still speaks volumes. He'll know you're thinking it!

goldpartyhat · 04/04/2020 20:23

He's dragged me up to look at the mechanism and figure out why it won't go back in again. 😂😂😂😂think I've figured it but won't say anything til tomorrow. It's a little black twiglet thing that's stopping it.

I won't say anything until tomorrow. He's given up after nearly 2 hours....on a bloody drawer.

He's always boasting about his 'magic fingers' (stop the smutty thoughts!) being able to fix all things mechanical.

Trying not to look smug.

I'll have finished laying the floor in the study by the time that drawer is fixed at this rate!

OP posts:
BrooHaHa · 04/04/2020 20:25

You just fix it yourself, OP, then casually drop it into conversation.

foodandwine89 · 04/04/2020 21:14

so you're doing all the work while he potters around fixing one drawer? you're not the winner in this.

LakieLady · 04/04/2020 21:21

I have a special "I told you so" look for circumstances like this. DP knows what the look means, but as I haven't actually said it he has no reason to cop the hump and just has to suck it up. Grin

Saracen · 05/04/2020 01:05

Why don't you sequester yourself in another room with the drawer while he lays the floor? Fix the drawer rapidly and then relax in solitude. Make the odd banging noise and emerge occasionally in search of a different tool.

...or does his talent for laying floors rival his drawer-repairing ability?

1forAll74 · 05/04/2020 01:40

Everything is a woman's job. men mostly know nothing !

Cheeringmeup · 05/04/2020 01:51

Tell him nothing, look as smug as you like.
I understand that this in no way helps make these men more useful or competent, but nothing will.
(I speak as a competent woman with an ability to read instructions and a selection of power tools).

TinklyLittleLaugh · 05/04/2020 01:54

Reading the instructions is a skill known only to women.

If men read instructions, their balls shrivel up and their willies fall off. True dat.

goingtotown · 05/04/2020 02:18

Say nothing. Silence speaks louder than words.

Imstillskanking · 05/04/2020 02:38

Say nothing. You don't need to. It's funnier this way.

FortunesFave · 05/04/2020 03:33

Your DH sounds like me. I'd do the same...I'm always looking for the quick way to do things and often regret it.

My DH is all about preparation and doing shit properly.

BORING! Grin (but best)

ColdCottage · 05/04/2020 03:48

I wish i could hold off, always say I told you so way too early.

ChikiTIKI · 05/04/2020 04:34

I am laughing too much at this.. This is just what my dad would do.

MrsJonesAndMe · 05/04/2020 07:22
Grin
MrAlyhakinsMassiveYacht · 05/04/2020 08:04

I have a dance. DH has a "stand there in your wrongness being wrong" tshirt.

goldpartyhat · 05/04/2020 11:23

The effing drawer saga is continuing. So much for his lie in. In daylight I can see he's managed to bend the runners. I've left him to it.

I shall get my circular saw out and cut the flooring.

He's now calling for my help

RedRed9 · 05/04/2020 11:26

Is this a good opportunity to get rid of the filing cabinet? (Unless you work from home in a job that makes an obscene amount of physical paperwork.)
