If your toddler had to be hospitalised due to Covid, could you be with them?

Does anyone know what is the cutoff age where you would be allowed to go to hospital with your baby/child please? My child is fine, but I'm suddenly struck by the fear that I wouldn't be able to go with them - that's crazy though, right? If my toddler had it I would too, and he doesn't have the understanding an older child would, he just couldn't go himself, surely?

Awful times - I'm so sorry for anyone who has loved ones suffering at the moment. Thanks

Yes this has been confirmed by the government on a number of occasions that a parent CAN accompany a child.

Oh thank god. Thank you.

One parent can be with them (unless they have symptoms too of course).

bluebirdsong · 04/04/2020 18:55

You would be able to go with any age child but our local policy is that you would have to stay once you are there and no other visitors or swapping of parents. You would remain in room at all times and be fed by hospital.

I thought it was the decision of each individual hospital?

Branleuse · 04/04/2020 18:56

if they are under 18 a parent can visit, but im not sure about age for being able to stay with them

isadoradancing123 · 04/04/2020 18:56

Yes one person only

Can confirm what @bluebirdsong has said - was in very recently with my 3 yr old with suspected covid. They would not separate parent and child but yes very strict re: leaving the room, other parent coming in.
Please don’t worry!

My Dd has been in hospital a few times and I would think that it's essential for a parent to be with them. The nurses just don't have time to deal with all the care a child requires, like going to the toilet, changing clothes, turning on the TV or tablet, picking up Teddy from the floor feeding them etc etc.
