To leave dd's teeth

Dd is 8 and chipped her front adult teeth on trampoline yesterday.
I called our dentist who is not seeing anyone unless it's a massive emergency. He recommended calpol and wait until they are open again. Although he's not seen the damage.
Aibu to think it's not that bad and I should just follow his advice and not get ringing round for other emergency dental care.....
I had a recent before picture when I was showing her where to clean properly. She has hypoplasia from antibiotics as a baby, so weak enamel - thinking about which, I didn't mention to the dentist on phone and he has never met her nor did he look at her notes, so he doesn't know this......

If it's causing her pain because of exposed nerves I'd try and get it seen to but if it's purely cosmetic I'd wait. It looks like she's chipped the lower tooth too?

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 04/04/2020 14:07

If not in pain its not urgent

Elouera · 04/04/2020 14:10

Agree with previous poster about seeking help if painful.

My husband had a similar chip. His dentist glued it back, but almost daily, it kept coming off. He went back literally 10x to the same place! A 2nd, older dentist put a tiny pin in the back and secured the chip in. Its been there 10yrs now without any problems. Do you still have the chip?

If now, I wonder if the top teeth could be filed ever so slightly to even them out?

Funnyface1 · 04/04/2020 14:10

Just by comparing those 2 pictures it looks like at least 3 teeth have been broken. I really would try and get her seen.

Mrsmorton · 04/04/2020 14:10

I'd leave it til they're open again properly. There's a bit of a plaque build up between her lower incisors. Get her to have a bit of a dig around in there when she brushes!

wholelottahistory · 04/04/2020 14:10

Thanks. I think she has chipped both 2 lower front and 2 top front.
Will keep the calpol going she seems ok with that, but in pain without it.

As long as she’s not in pain then yes leave it.

DS2 broke his adult front tooth diagonally in half when we were on holiday once - emergency dentist just checked it and said fine to wait until we were home and could be repaired by our usual dentist

RonnieBarkingMad · 04/04/2020 14:11

It’s not a massive emergency if she is not in extreme pain. On a side note, try and pick up some Vaseline for her lips as they look chapped and potentially sore in the second photo Flowers

wholelottahistory · 04/04/2020 14:12

Yes, will give her some vaseline. She had a bloody nose and bleeding lip from the trampoline accident too.

She'll be fine, I've had a tooth like that all my life and i'm 60 now. i've only just had it tipped with white amalgam for cosmetic reasons recently. It never caused me any problems.

wholelottahistory · 04/04/2020 14:16

Thanks. It is 4 teeth she has chipped.

We dont have the pieces as they were all crumbly in her mouth and she spat out.

Use a bit of sensitive toothpaste as an ointment On the teeth so just rub a bit on and leave it one. The criteria for dental pain emergency at the minute is severe pain that is unmanaged by pain relief for 48 hours to be seen at one of the urgent care covid dental centres, I also wouldn’t worry that that will happen it looks like fairly minor trauma. That’s not to say it wouldn’t normally have been best to have it looked at normally but it’s just not a normal time. Hope she is ok

Oinkypig · 04/04/2020 14:30

On not one!

OlaEliza · 04/04/2020 14:58

Vaseline will make her lips worse. She needs to drink more water.

wholelottahistory · 05/04/2020 08:20

Good point shes not super at drinking water and we dont have squash or juice.

Tepid rather than cold water may be less painful at the moment.

sufferingsandra · 05/04/2020 09:31

Take her to the dentist and keep her away from the trampoline

madcatladyforever · 05/04/2020 09:35

We dont have the pieces as they were all crumbly in her mouth and she spat out.

You don't need the pieces, they can build up a tooth from around two thirds of a tooth without crowning it, mine was awful and it looks fine now.

Wynston · 05/04/2020 10:20

I would call them again in the morning.

LetMeTryAgain · 05/04/2020 10:26

I agree with Mrs Morton, I'm also a retired dentist. Not an emergency. Leave until everything back to "normal". The sharp edges will smooth down slightly.

MrsEricBana · 05/04/2020 10:37

Poor soul, but yes definitely leave it until this is all over as going now would be a risk to her and the dentist plus they will be able to take much more time over a cosmetic fix when it is safer to do so. It is not very bad but will need looking at. No trampoline for now!

Fluffybutter · 05/04/2020 10:42

And this is why I am anti trampolines !
I agree if she’s not in pain then leave it for now but if it gets worse then you have every reason to take her .
Hope she is ok now

Lifeaback · 05/04/2020 10:52

If she’s in enough pain that it’s interfering with her eating or drinking I would definitely ring back (and explain about the hypoplasia) or find another dentist, but if the pain is controlled by calpol I would hold fire and wait.

On a side note- what lovely straight teeth she has! As someone that endured years of braces I’m always slight envious of kids with perfectly straight teeth

wholelottahistory · 05/04/2020 13:36

@Lifeaback I'm amazed too as mine were so crowded and years of treatment too
