Very vulnerable list - How long?

Mistletorpor · 04/04/2020 09:36

My parents are on the very vulnerable list. NHS letter, registered on the govt website. Also on supermarkets on lists.
Yet not one of the online supermarkets are recognising them as very vulnerable.
I know there are millions on the list, but how long is this likely to take? They are in need of food and other basics, but I have symptoms and we are in isolation now. My sibling lives 180 miles away so cannot help.

Sorry, that was @MadameBee

Try a morrisons food box
www.morrisons.com/food-boxes/box/Vegetarian-Food-Box

Keep trying each day they have reasonable availability and deliver in a couple of days

Local authorities have been asked to contact everyone who has registered for help and check if they have their central government goods box yet. All councils also received a supply of goods to provide a stop gap for anyone who had yet to receive their supplies and was running low.

MadameBee · 04/04/2020 12:11

Yes we have been contacting everyone, we are signposting towards voluntary groups.

MadameBee · 04/04/2020 12:14

I think it’s misleading to suggest we are ensuring everyone has food - we are not.

TriciaMcMillan · 04/04/2020 12:18

We are. Obviously, I can't speak for you.

Are you suggesting that the OP or their DP should not contact their local authority for help?

MadameBee · 04/04/2020 12:23

I didn’t say that did I? Hmm

Not sure where you are getting all your info from but I am just saying what I know seeing as I have been making the phone calls all week - every LA should have a dedicated COVID-19 helpline number and email address. Ringing the helpline does not mean that the LA will send someone out with your shopping, it’s more likely they will signpost you to a voluntary group.

TriciaMcMillan · 04/04/2020 12:29

Yes, because councils are working in partnership with the vcs to provide services. So the way to access that would be to contact the local authority.

You seem intent on scaremongering that the local authority will let people starve. In fact they are largely working 7 days a week with vcs partners to ensure the community is suitably supported.

And on that note, I'm out.

MadameBee · 04/04/2020 12:36

I was not intent on scaremongering at all!

I am just conscious that they way you have written your post it sounds like you can just call the council and they will sort it which is not the case at all and will cause stress and confusion for vulnerable people and myself and my colleagues.

It’s more than likely you will be provided with a list of voluntary agencies to contact yourself.

Meanwhile in Wales the government hasn’t event sent the list to supermarkets yet so we can’t get priority slots and, despite offering to email a copy of the shielding letter, the supermarkets will absolutely not do anything to help. Infuriating.
