For my gran
She always scratches her elbow and small plasters fall off so would I be unreasonable to phone surgery and ask for plasters/dressings?

Can you order some online and get them posted to her? Surgeries are crazy atm, and this isn’t essential.

iamkahleesi · 03/04/2020 22:08

That would be ridiculous! You can't be seriously asking?!!! Order online the doctors have enough on

Yes, I think you would be unreasonable, try online first.

madcatladyforever · 03/04/2020 22:11

You can buy dressings from the chemist.

TrainspottingWelsh · 03/04/2020 22:11

Why can't you just buy her some and post them through the door? Or get them delivered to her if you don't live nearby?

thatswhytheladyisatramp · 03/04/2020 22:11

Thanks guys
I ordered a pack of 100 from amazon
Social services are checking finances to see if her money is being spent correctly.
I showed receipt and I think they were under £8 for 100
She said
Rather than buy those you should have contacted district nurses.
I obviously wasn't happy about her suggestion
Just wanted to check I wasn't being silly

Pharmacy might be your best bet as they can give advice re best ones to use.

Community nursing here, normally we would give you them as it would perhaps stop it from breaking down further leading to district nursing visits anyway. At the moment though I think it is Unreasonable to ask as we are really struggling to get enough dressings to see us through our patients at the moment

VettiyaIruken · 04/04/2020 07:31

Why does she scratch her elbow?
Is it dry skin or something serious?

I ask because if it is something a district nurse would normally attend to (like the ulcers on my grans legs) then it wouldn't actually be unreasonable to ask for supplies if you genuinely cannot get them anywhere else, but if it was just a bit of dry skin then it would be unreasonable and she'd be best off with regular application of e45 or something to solve the problem so she doesn't need plasters.

thatswhytheladyisatramp · 04/04/2020 17:23

No it's not a condition that needs treatment.
She uses her walker and is a bit wobbly so normally ends up knocking her elbows off walls doors etc
Especially the toilet as it's very narrow
I didn't want to waste nurses time when I could easily order them.

What about a tube bandage? Amazon has loads and it couldn't be knocked off
