To team up essential shopping trip and daily exercise?

PeanutbutterJamSandwich · 03/04/2020 15:40

Generally my dog walking/daily exercise has been done from the house.

All except when I need to go do the half weekly shop, I drive somewhere on route to the shop (which is only 10min drive away) stop, either walk dog/go for run/ride bike, then go to shop and go home.

Is this so bad? Most of the places I go are regular places and tend to just cut out the boring road sections. I live rurally in a tiny village connected with county roads. So I’m basically cutting out the country road.

I see nothing wrong with that.

You're out in the car anyway. Not changing direction and adding to your trip.

MiniCooperLover · 03/04/2020 15:43

Why are you doing a half weekly shop? Why not a full shop?

MayTheGodsBeEverInYourFavour · 03/04/2020 15:47

We do this. No car, everything has to be on foot. We have to go twice a week as can't bring a full week's worth of shopping at once, it's nearly 2 miles, up a long hill. On shopping days we walk the scenic route there, straight back. Other days we (usually) go for a walk in the woods, separately or together. Some days we just stay in.

PeanutbutterJamSandwich · 03/04/2020 15:55

Fridge isn’t big enough and we go through lots of milk!

We don’t have a freezer either so have to restock on meat often.

PeanutbutterJamSandwich · 03/04/2020 15:56

Yeah @MayTheGodsBeEverInYourFavour we’ve walked/biked to the shop too, taking the scenic route there.

RestYourHead · 03/04/2020 15:58

Don't worry OP the shopping police are out. Heaven forbid someone can't manage to get a full shop in one go, you cannot break the one shop a week made up rule.
Carry on with what you're doing, sounds fine to me,

PeanutbutterJamSandwich · 03/04/2020 16:04

Thanks 😊

You want to be told you’re not doing wrong. So: you’re not doing wrong.

Or why else would you be asking random Mumsnet users for permission and guidance where is acceptable to walk around in your local area?

PeanutbutterJamSandwich · 03/04/2020 16:22

Thanks @ronnie, I can carry on with my day guilt free now

OP posts:
livingthegoodlife · 03/04/2020 16:27

I don't think you're doing anything wrong.

I stick to one shop a week which means I've rationed my kids to 2 cups of milk a day and one piece of fruit. Otherwise my shopping would last about 2-3 days. They are fine.

RonnieBarkingMad · 03/04/2020 16:40

Wellwhat do you expect really @PeanutbutterJamSandwich ?

You say you regularly drive your car but only to take your dog out on a walk and to shop. You say this is twice weekly but also so you can include exercise or a dog walk. Just do what you’re doing that suits you and stop trying to impress people/be a martyr online

PeanutbutterJamSandwich · 03/04/2020 16:50

I think you’ve got the wrong end of the stick @Ronnie

I think you’ve got the wrong end of the stick Ronnie

The only stick I’ve got is from what’s taken from your OP and subsequent posts. If that’s the wrong end of the stick that’s your fault for providing me with it.

If you think going to the shop twice weekly and driving your car to said shop twice weekly is fine then why are you asking about it on here if you think it’s okay? Why are you throwing your dog into the mix saying it has to have a walk to try and make out your twice weekly shops are more acceptable? If you’re questioning whether it’s something wrong and you want others advice then why so pissy at me when i gave you mine?

PeanutbutterJamSandwich · 03/04/2020 22:36

@RonnieBarkingMad I think you need to take the stick out of your arse! You got pissy with me first, naturally I’m going to retaliate in a pissy manner.

I’m struggling to see in my posts were I’m being a martyr or trying to impress?

I was asking about whether it is acceptable to go out in the car for exercise, if I go to the shop on that same journey too. It doesn’t matter whether I go once a day or once a week, that wasn’t the point of my post.

I did exactly that today. I went out early on to get some milk because ours had gone off - to the local garage. That was my shopping trip for the day.

So this afternoon I went out for a walk, which took me via M&S where I picked up some more shopping.

If I needed to drive to the supermarket I might well wear my running gear and use it as a base for a run as there is one near a couple of good running routes that I use often in normal times, but it's about 4 miles away.

Gingerkittykat · 03/04/2020 22:44

Don't ask any questions about what you should or shouldn't do during lockdown. Either the shopping, dogwalking, driving or exercise police will soon be along to berate you.

I detoured a couple of miles to go to a totally deserted beach the other day and had people sniping at me.

BBCONEANDTWO · 03/04/2020 22:45

The 100% says YANBU - get rid of the guilt that'll stress you out. There's enough stress going around at the moment. Take care

Oopsinamechangedagain2020 · 03/04/2020 22:46

Family of 5 here plus a raw fed dog. We don't have the fridge and freezer space for a once a week shop.
What you're doing sounds fine to me. We even drive the dog to the park (she's only a puppy so it's a bit much to ask for her to walk there).

PeanutbutterJamSandwich · 03/04/2020 22:52

Thank all.

It is the guilt, driving with dog/bikes in the back trying to come up with excuses I’ll use if the police do stop me!

Doesn’t help that I live in the Lake District so just see plastered all over the news that LD is closed, do not come here! But I am here! There are some lovely walks in my local area and I feel guilty using them!

I was asking about whether it is acceptable to go out in the car for exercise, if I go to the shop on that same journey too.

No it’s not. So stop.

Would you actually stop though if random people online told you they think you should? Or carry on as and when you need to? If so, hence the “matrtyr/wanting to impress” comment left by me, because it seems a bit of a boast.

PeanutbutterJamSandwich · 03/04/2020 23:38

Well you’re the only one that thinks so so far @RonnieBarkingMad

If the majority were telling me that yes IWBU then yes I would reassess.
