To be sad that parents haven't asked if I need anything from the shop?

Im 29, in precautionary 14 day isolation after working with someone who came down with symptoms 24 hours later (I know the official guidance is only need to isolate if have symptoms but it seems morally wrong to go shopping knowing I'm potentially a walking Petri dish). I live alone and usually see my parents weekly but obviously can't since lockdown, live very local ( 3 minute drive) one of the shops they go to is literally at the bottom of my road.

Im on day 12, so can go out on Monday. Im getting to the point now where things like bread, eggs, milk etc are running low which in all honesty I could live with but I'm also completly out of veggies for the bunnies, so in the morning when they are all excited and dancing around my feet for their breakfast I have nothing to give them (obviously they still have hay and nuggets) which is making me really sad and I just don't understand why when they are going the shop anyway they wouldn't ask me if I need anything?

They gave me a list of things weeks ago to keep an eye out for if I went anywhere (before lock down) and when I can go out on Monday I have every Intention on asking them and a few friends if there's anything they need me pick them up while I'm out (door step drop off obviously) it just wouldn't occur to me not to make sure everyone has everything they need if I'm going out anyway 😔

Maybe I'm just feeling very lonley and emotional today after a lack of human contact but it's made me really sad ☹

Seriously? Hmm

They're not psychic!

Yes it would have been nice of them to proactively ask, but I think you're being a bit of a martyr.

I don't think you're being unreasonable. The second I told my mum I was isolating she offered to do a shop for me. My in laws haven't said anything even though I talk to them regularly and I feel put out by it (as they live down the road). So I completely get it.

You shouldn’t have to ask them

You’re their daughter, they should be asking you if they can get you anything.

Jesus wept. Makes you wonder about many people in here when their response is ‘Ask’. Yes you can ask, but you shouldn’t have to!

Hope you continue to be well 🌷

Dishwashersaurous · 03/04/2020 17:31

Do they know that you are actually not going out?

Have you asked them

AnneLovesGilbert · 03/04/2020 17:34

Ask them. If you had, your bunnies would have what they need!

WeAllHaveWings · 03/04/2020 17:41

Have you asked them? You are 29 ffs they might have been under the impression you are an adult.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 03/04/2020 17:45

You can just ask but i get it OP. If I was self isolating my mum wouldn't wait for me to ask.

However, she would think I was being a bit overkill if i self isolated without good reason and would communicate that by not offering....

my2bundles · 03/04/2020 17:46

Ask them they are not psychic. I had to isolate for 14 days with an actual child (not bunnies 😕) I still didn't expect others to magically know we needed anything.

GreytExpectations · 03/04/2020 18:03

but I think you're being a bit of a martyr

This. You do not need to self isolate, that is not the governments or the NHS guidelines. You made that choice so you should be an adult enough to ask for help (which is ridiculous as you don't even need to isolate!) I really wish people would just follow the guidelines and not make up their own rules.

Rezie · 03/04/2020 18:07

Of course you can ask them, but I totally get how you are feeling and I don't think you are being unreasonable. In your shoes, I wouldn't ask either cause it's a big step for some of us. Even with people that we care about and know would help.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 03/04/2020 18:16

Just ask them!
