Tested positive for MRSA, 37 weeks pregnant - is this bad?

I’m 37+2 weeks pregnant and on Tuesday I was swabbed for MRSA because I have a csection coming up on the 15th April. I came into the hospital this evening for reduced movements and was instantly side roomed and told I’d tested positive. The midwife has been gone for a while now and I’ve had no answers or reassurance over what it is or what it means for me and the baby. I’m also GBS positive and have gestational diabetes and pregnancy induced hypertension. Now I’m really worried because Google is just telling me scary things - does anyone have any more knowledge on it please?

No knowledge I'm afraid but I assume you will get treatment eg antibiotics.

I don’t know sweetheart, but I didn’t want to read and run. Someone who knows more will be along shortly, but in the meantime, know that you are absolutely in the right place and it’s good they’ve picked it up.

Sit tight, and if the nurse doesn’t come back soon, stick your head out and ask what’s going on. Don’t be shy about asking, Good luck.

Another one who can’t give you any advice but can offer you a hand hold CandleFlames. I agree if she’s not back soon poke your head round the door/ press your buzzer Flowers

About 1 in 30 people are carrying MRSA on their skin and most of the time it causes no problems - however it can be very problematic if it gets under the skin via a wound or other break, including drips etc, which is why hospitals are rightly very careful about it. There’s more information about it here:

www.nhs.uk/conditions/mrsa/

Basically don’t panic, they’re on it and will start the appropriate measure to clear it from your skin.
